My call is going broody again and laying. There’s just one concern, we have rats. Does anybody know if rats would eat the babies? So far they haven’t touched any eggs either from the chickens or the ducks, but we’ve never had a rat problem until now

rats are nasty and can eat them. mama will do her best to protect but you might want to set traps to get them out- somewhere the ducks won't get to/be hurt

Okay. Luckily the hutch theyre in now is wrapped in the hardware cloth that has 1/4 inch squares so they cant get in through the holes but i know some small gaps where they could so ill close those off

Hey guys.. so i have 5 mallard eggs in the incubator and wasnt keeping too good track of the days but i could swear today is only day 22-23 and some of them are making internal pips already and im not prepared at all!! Like, i didnt put them in lockdown yet because i thought they would take 26-27 days... i should’ve trusted my candling skills cause i was like “these look further along.. theyre gonna be early..”

Anyway, im leaving for South Carolina tomorrow morning and will be back sunday night, do you think they will be okay?? Will they have hatched by then?
