Are you expectations different with fresh vs shipped eggs?

I've never hatched shipped eggs, only my own or from someone local.

I am, however, thinking about ordering some in the future. Just for some fresh blood in the flock.

I think a lot depends on the shipper and the carrier.

If I get 50-75% with shipped eggs I am super happy! The highest I've had so far is 80% on shipped eggs.

We candled ALL the eggs last night on day 11 (no particular reason, just when we had time and felt motivated enough to candle lol) and only found 3 infertile egg.

We had 51 eggs to start with, 3 were left on the corner and occasionally turned by hand...when we remember. So it worked out perfectly - tossed out the 3 infertile eggs and put the 3 occasionally turned eggs on the turner. Not that we expect them to hatch but there seemed to be some development.

We did see some movements in a couple, less spotted eggs, which was pretty cool! A couple more days to wait...

So a friend and I have been arguing about how to figure hatch rates. I figure based on the number of eggs in the bator on day one. He bases it of the number that go into lock down. So naturally he always has better rates than I do. So who is right?

So when it comes to hatching quail, what does everyone consider a “successful” hatch rate?
Shipped eggs?
Fresh eggs?

My last batch of quail eggs...I set 19 shipped eggs. 5 were clears/not fertile. I had 1 quit around day fourteen. 13 quailies hatched.

Depends on who you ask. Everyone counts differently.

View attachment 1565066 Although I can't join in for he hatch along, I just had a 100% success hatch rate for my first ever batch of quail! This is all 12 of them and I'll send more pictures once I get a good photo shoot in
