@CindyinSD our latitude is around 43-43.5 daylight starts around 7am and at 5pm is dark. Do you put extra light?

I did last year, and if I needed the eggs I would now, only I’ve been getting 3-4 eggs a day (from 40 hens & pullets) without lights and that’s enough for me at present. I think I may have too many layers, but they’re all so pretty!

No because they appear to be mixed varieties. The one in the corner on the left could end up being white or Royal palm.

Best thing ever don’t know how many yet as the one I checked had a crack indent in it so I took that opportunity to crack it open to see and there were blood vessels

I'm totally in distress this evening, I just went out a couple of hours ago.
Now this is what I found!

Even the tips of her wings are bloodied and featherless! What??? Why??? Is it because of my supplemental lighting, or is it just what 5 week old boys do to birds that don't crow in the pen?
Hormones?
How can I wait till they're older to process them when this is what they're doing?
At least there is still skin to cover her skull, as long as the wound closes & she doesn't lose that flesh, the skin slides down her neck and is loose above her eyes as well.
I'm seriously thinking about processing the whole lot of boys tomorrow (I have some sorted for breeding already)!
What'd y'all suggest?
