➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Hi everyone I just started hatching gamble quails. My first hatch was 9 eggs, all 9 hatched with a new incubator, so happy. It’s been 7 days and I’ve lost 3 chicks due to one of the chick being a bully. I’ve placed a feather duster in the brooding box and they all love it.

Honestly they are a mix of colors i haven't setup and specific breeding pens for them yet. I am going to do some breeding pens when we move to our new house which should be really soon.
I’m not setting up specific color pens either. I like the element of surprise. The person I grabbed quail eggs from got Falb fee to pop out of their mixed pen. I’m overly happy about that!

The first one is the hardest. My first one was a one day old chick whose toes were so curled that they didn't respond to treatment. :hugs
The hatchet made it nice and quick. I will cremate him in the bonfire tonight.

I usually have my husband do mercy kills but he’s not here so I had to put on my big girl pants.

Candled the eggs today finally and locked them down. Took out 6 early quitters so there’s 23 left. Some I couldn’t really see much and I’ve had some temp spikes recently so I’m not sure on but left them. Others were definitely alive. :lau

One has the air cell on the wrong end though :hit

It’s definitely alive though so :fl

You might have to assist the one that has the air cell on the wrong side.

I’ll be ready just in case!! It’s a pretty tiny egg too, smaller than the others, so I probably will. :(

Might be harder to turn around in being a smaller egg??

But it is VERY feisty and moving tons when I was candling so hopefully I won’t have to!!

If it’s growing good, it should be fine. Just worried about it pipping on the wrong end.

Ive been checking my quail aviary for eggs. Nothing yet.
