➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

i was concerned today because following snow/ice removal around the gate, a little hole has opened up and “technically” if my buttons really wanted out, they could escape but all 3 were in the opposite corner enjoying the sunshine!!! hopefully we will find time more more spring cleaning this weekend and i can make sure any obvious holes are filled in!
Use a zip tie in the meantime?

Hatch update: Well, it's just a matter of time. I don't think the poor chick that got its leg caught in the fan will make it. Best I can tell, it escaped any type of break, but the trauma and not being able to get to food and water on its own will be the end.

At day 17, I'm not yet ready to call this hatch over, but I'm also not holding out too much hope for the 5 unhatched eggs in the incubator. I'm partly at fault. I didn't stabilize the eggs before moving the incubator and they did quite a bit of rolling before lockdown.

Right now, 9 chicks out of 19 set. Five were clear (but I partially expected it, having used supermarket eggs and the first eggs laid by the celadon) and five are still incubating. All in all, a major disappointment from the last hatch. The one supermarket chick was a pleasant surprise though. It looks like it will be an Italian, a good size and healthy.

Just keep on telling him that. We all know that you are just using him for his hugs.
I'm OK with that. Especially in this time of social desolation.
Need a hug, friend? :hugs
Me too!

I'll tell you how much I got paid if you tell me what you got.
Time for a payment? Here you go: :hugs
5 tight hugs.
:love And I didn't have to chase her down or anything!

Chickens hatching later this month. And because of all my friends, I'm contemplating another batch of quail. I'm gonna need a bigger coop.

Hatch update:

Mother Nature surprised me with three more chicks this morning, including another supermarket baby. There are just two more left: one homegrown that looks like it pipped, and another supermarket egg.

I guess this hatch is looking better. I'm a bit surprised at the refrigerated and shipped eggs. I put in five and got two birds. Two eggs were clear, and there is still a small hope for the last unhatched one.

Bad news. . .I put the two newest, including one of the supermarket birds in the brooder to dry, but the container was too hot and the birds burrowed into the blanket and suffocated. I feel so bad. They were doing so well.
