➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Some of my babies from this last hatch! What is the difference between Italian and Manchurian? I can’t tell if I got a Pansy Fee or a Pearl, and the chocolate brown ones (not the celadon tuxedos and rosettas) are hard to figure out too!

Beautiful chicks! A manchurian will have much fewer spots, often a solid brown or black head or neck if it’s male and will be a color ranging from yellow to peach. I see a pearl and an Italian in your group, the pearl may be a very dark snowie, I have one like that I thought was pearl, and it made a bunch of double silver chicks because I put it with a silver roo, not realizing it was dark silver and not black.

Thanks! I had a feeling they were Italians, the color is so pretty! Which one is the Pearl? The one that is white with some black? I would not have thought about the fact that it could be a dark snowie! I now have three silver carrying males, so I will need to be careful! They are the calmest babies I’ve owned thus far! I can actually hold a few of them without them flipping out, they sit and let me pet them. 😍

There are 3 photos with a pearl or dark snowie, I’m not certain if they are the same chick. photo 1, top bird, only half of it is in the picture. Photo 3, of the 3 in the middle, it is far right. Photo 5, center chick.

Okay, cool. That’s the one I was thinking of, it is the same bird. I have only had Pansy Fees that are black and white so I wasn’t sure if it was a Pansy Fee with fewer black markings or indeed a Pearl. :) My quail experience is far more limited, so I figured I would ask the smart people here like you! 😁😁 Thanks!!

Uh oh. There's a non-celadon egg in the roo cage. . .I don't know which one is the hen, or why it isn't celadon (i.e. which of the breeding males isn't homozygous).
I hate when that happens!! Sneaky quail laying eggs when you think they’re a boy! 😁

I too have a celadon hen that I believe is laying normal eggs. She was supposed to be homozygous as well! I thought she just wasn’t laying and then realized that she just wasn’t laying blue eggs! They have a very slight blue tint on the inside shell though. Sweet thing stresses out over everything so I just figured she was overly stressed and not laying eggs!

So, I think I've figured out which one is the female, but she's fine with the boys. There is one boy that the other boys (and one girl) don't like though, so he's hanging out with the girls.

So complicated, these picky personalities.
