āž” Quail Hatch Along🄚

Yeah my quail try to get closer when my dogs or cats are near them luckily my animals are fine with them but still with an actual flight instinct they should be trying to run away.
Back at my old place I had a temporary pen set up with grow outs and I didn't make absolutely certain it was on level ground. They all got out. The next morning I cam out with food and more than half of them came running towards me.

I cleared out one of my garden beds for the winter and moved my calico fee to the new bed. I've spent this morning pulling up dead tomato plants from another bed and giving the bed I moved the quail from a good hoeing under. Once I finish with the tomato bed I'm going to move another pen of quail onto it. That leaves me only two beds to plant in the spring, but I have enough cinder blocks to make several more beds. The problem is getting the soil to fill them with.

I think I'm going to see how some carrots do in the winter. The greenhouse gets warm enough during the day, but I'm afraid everything will freeze during the night. I might play with a candle and flowerpot heater in the middle of the bed.

I am so sad. I was looking forward to this hatch from Thieving Otter. I only had 5 hatch, and four of them failed to thrive. The one I have left is bigger than the others were, but is not growing like I expect. Today is day 6 after hatch, and I'm not seeing any feathers yet. It has finally begun to gain weight, going from 8g yesterday to 11g today.

I don't think it's the breeder, since plenty of people have gotten great chicks out of them. The one that passed away today was a black one. I was really hoping to get black from this hatch. I have no idea what the one survivor is going to look like as an adult.
