➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

A few photos taken moments after cleaning the brooder. All poop is because they are obviously boys, and icky.

The leg issues can be due to a niacin deficiency. You can try the Brewer's yeast method that the duck people use or you can do the vitamin B complex in the water. At least one person I know saw improvement using the vitamin B complex (1/2 pill or capsule dissolved in 1 gallon of water) for her turkey poults.

Oooooo thanks R2! I'll give it a go!

Oh thank goodness. After having 6-8 pips for over 30 hours, they started popping off. I have two out, three on the way, and another half dozen or so pips.

The first one is ANOTHER gorgeous chunky charcoal chick from my new favorite pair. I think the next one to pop out is as well. That makes four. :love My homebred eggs have been 100% colored chicks this month. That was statistically...unlikely. I am pleased.

I am curious too! :caf Dark feet but cinnamon/roux dilute looking sandy feathers? Intriguing.

Actually, the one next to it looks dope too! :love
Please keep talking like this...it is almost forcing me to start learning quail genetics.

They are so fun! I love genetics! And epigenetics! They are maddening! The conflicting information absolutely everywhere (mostly due to lack of a governing body unlike most other fancy type poultry on here) with coturnix has stoked me into attempting to figure it all out myself.

I am already getting pickier about who I immediately like and don't like :D We are on third generation here mixing almost half a dozen bloodlines now which feels pretty great. My little creations are well and truly mine now.

I just got two full siblings in a row - I already see one has been stamped with the type I'm looking for and one has not. My avatar bird appears to have thrown four slightly different shades of sandy/charcoal in four different chicks. This is not helping my understanding of this color :barnie I have 2-3 more full siblings on the way, too. 3/4 are keepers so far so I'm pretty stoked :wee

This hatch has told me a lot. I have distinct under and over-performers in terms of the quality of chicks.
