➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Obviously you don’t want to get in trouble but I really don’t think they are going to come out with a measuring tape and chew you out for 8 extra square feet. I think it is probably more to prevent people from building massive structures without permits. But I think as long as it still looks fairly small they probably won’t care or even notice at all. But idk.

You really need to find some rabbit cages. I love them more each batch.
The 2 wire cages I have are old rabbit cages without legs and poop pans rusted out a long time ago. Got a weasel cage coming downstairs too now that the rats have passed. RIP. If the doors were dutch doors, I could have 2 levels in one box. Still have to clean the thing.

Your quail coops are hurricane proof. The rabbitry collection will get blown around in strong winds.

I love mine, but getting my rabbits out of them is a PITA. :rant I might go shallower next time. They'd be perfect for quail, though.
How deep are they? The internet research recommended 2' deep so you didn't have to crawl in to get them. Or use a dip net. Rabbits are a much larger target to grab than the itty bitty zoomies.

It seems like they take shifts at the feeder—one half goes out, and then the other. They're starting to eat some of the sawdust, so I've given them chick grit. All babies gaining mass and putting out their first feathers—so far, so good!

My family have been helping me keep an eye on them while I'm at work. Everybody already has their favorites, the ones they're hoping are hens .
What colours are those pretty rusty ones?
I set a bunch last night. I forget how many. 16 eggs total, but some were chicken eggs.

I'm pretty sure they're only 24", but that's plenty deep when you're trying to squeeze giant rabbits through tiny door holes while also trying to make sure they don't hate you forever.

Everyone calls every red something different but those are closest to scarlet from my understanding.

Mine photobombing in from the right-hand side. Lemme see if I can find her baby pic.

Huh. I have some birds that look like that but they didn't look anywhere near that red as babies.

Your quail are gorgeous.

They might be red range! See pic above for reference. As adults they look like halfway in between scarlet and tibetan. Much more brown than scarlet, much more red than tibetan (who just have two copies of the same gene that causes red range).

I do not know the genetics behind these cute little redheads, though. I think it's a separate simple dominant. I had one male, who bred with my blue hen, which turned out a chick carrying both, who now throws both separately herself.

And thank you!
