āž” Quail Hatch Along🄚

(Here's the super bright red pupil of the complete albinos just for reference! Unfortunately I've not got any confirmed comparison pics of the two)

@mixedUPturk There are also a few genes that cause albino coloration. He could be an incomplete, especially if his pupils are just *slightly* red, I think @cosmosue had one pop up too. I do not know if that gene is linked to the same issues as true albinism (def what Casper has).

Yes Susan doesnt get on here much but i talk to her nearly daily lol she processed each of hers that was like that cuz they acted crazy were Not thriving. Thanks for the reference pic mine are Much darker than that u can jus barely see it

WOOOOOOTTTT!
When is hatch day?
Sounds like they might be drawing down and getting ready to start pipping.

Sometimes the dummies pip on the under neath side so you can't see/tell they have just by looking in the bator.
I like to check them all at night, each night, to look for external pips.
Tomorrow is day 18 so I hope to see some pips soon. I wasn’t sure how much to mess with them during lock down.

Also if the chick doesnt thrive you should know im prepared to do whatevers neccesary jus like she did.

I was candling earlier (yes, in the daylight), and an egg moved in the incubator. It’s a week early, so it was probably just that the incubator was bumped, but Duckling is sure they are trying to break out.
I'm with Duckling. They are trying to break out. It just may take them some time. But they are working on it.

I've got the last 2 to assist this afternoon. Pipped yesterday and no progress.

I've been using olive oil to loosen the gunk. Not been successful after springing them. Is it better to use warm water to dissolve the gunk? Oil isn't working for me. I'm afraid that it doesn't let them fluff and they chill.

What happened last time you helped one out?

Lots of people have noted physical and psychological issues of varying intensities with just the regular recessive whites, too (mine were physically healthy but totally psycho, the two males never stopped flip-flapping around). It's interesting! Lack of melanin screws up so much.

I'm sorry hers didn't do better, I hope yours does. Mine was a PITA to get full grown with having to teach him where the food and water is every time it got moved but does fine now. He just also has a large spot on one wing that never feathered in and it has a tendency to get pecked at now so he's in a pretty strictly monitored 'pet' group. I thought I'd end up housing him with all females but his best buddy is a little roo and I couldn't split them up even when someone wanted to buy that one. My guess is I'll lose him at 1-2 years from organ issues just because he's obviously a bit messed up through and through.

I love him because he can't escape my cuddles. :wee
