I think I read somewhere to wait until coturnix are 12 weeks before incubating any of their eggs. Anyone follow this rule? Would it be a quality thing or just a hatch rate reason? Thanks!

It just that their more likely to be fertile after that time....it takes awhile after they mature for them to get the hang of the mating process and to become sexually active.

That sounds like a challenge! And fun! I'll meet you half way. Eunice or Lacassine? If we meet in Iowa, we can get some Rabideaux's sausage. Baton Rouge has some good eats too. If we go to Ville Platte, we can see if Fred's on Main street is open. You know any good spots in Lafayette? I could ask Ms. Guillot, she's from there.

Kiki - what's a good spot in Eunice? Besides the Holiday Inn at the airport? Or Rayne or Welsh. Wife has family in Welsh I could ask.

My aunt was the mayor of Iowa and the president of the Louisiana Garden Club Federation... We can stay at her house, eat well and leave with a few rare plants.

Most people know what McIlhenny Tabasco Sauce is, but don't know how to use it. You dip your fried shrimp in it. YUM!
You can also use it as a steak sauce on pork chops. Or to color your eggs.

Definitely heard of all the various hot sauces but that’s about it.

I'm not worried about them getting too cold, I'm worried about them getting too hot! It's supposed to be in the 90s today.

My babies haven't over heated yet...been over 100 everyday of their little lives.
They have constant shade and fresh clean water always.

Candled Quail Batch #5 eggs last night. The quitter is confirmed quit and pulled.

3 in draw down with 2 internal pips and 1 very early sign of external pip.
Last one a little behind.
May have new quail tomorrow.

These are eggs from your original quail right?

It would be a fertility thing for sure.
Might be a not so healthy chick thing too.

Although I don't think I would wait 12 weeks.
I think waiting a couple of weeks after they start laying and meeting would be good.

Tabasco on eggs is the way to eat them.
