The more I look at them, the more I'm pretty sure they're all dead. I threw away one that was definitely dead. It was too light to still be alive.

I don't think they look too good. Number two could be drawn down but I think they might not be good.

Yes. Most people recommend drying the shells first. The preferred method seems to be to bake them before grinding them up.
