āž” Quail Hatch Along🄚

Although I guess that said when I had the chicks, I was changing it a million times a day cause they were always getting shavings, poop, food, other debris in their waterer :sick

So if yours do that then I guess it makes sense.

I was sure glad when the chicks were old enough to use the nipple waterer lol

I figured that once grown, a quail butt wouldn't poop in the water tray. Bigger so therefore harder to position. WRONG!

The name of the game is to put said quail butt in whatever position needed to make the giant with the food wonder what is going on. The best one so far, was have poop forcefully smooshed through the 1/4" hardware cloth ABOVE the protective cardboard 2" up the wall. Talent. I have talented quail. Devious, conniving, and bored quail.

Pictures this evening of water system. This was a first pass, so keep in mind this is a work in progress.

I'm trying a new no mess feeder out of the 1 quart sour creme/cottage cheese tubs. They haven't knocked it over yet. I put bricks on the old ones to keep them upright. The quail are feeding the chickens with their messiness using the chicken feeders. Glad I put the quail coops in the chicken run.

And another thing, the quail still like flying out a couple times a week as I'm opening the doors. This business with running after quail is getting old.

The cardboard trays for poop boxes is wonderful. Take them out and dump them. If nasty (and I have spares) replace with new tray. I missed my chance to get more trays this week. Time to go shopping again.

Do u have a dip net? I keep mine handy at all times. Even tote it to swaps :gig

I use a one gallon bucket with four horizontal chicken nipples. I hang it from the ceiling of the coop and it works well. Lasts several days with about a dozen quail and as long as the lid stays on the water is clean. It does take up room in the coop though and if the ceiling isn’t high enough it would have to be set on bricks or something.

This is what i want vs the cups. I have 4 of them on a 5 gal bucket in one chicken pen and it is great. I think theyre not considering it because they drip but if you had a wire section just under the waterers that could be pretty great. Itll happen here one day.

Also automatic is probably not good for me because I have a problem with letting water sit over night.
I couldn't leave it for 2 days at a time I would drive me nuts.

I still change all the water once a day. Even in the bucket where it stays clean and would last for days. Then at least they have water even if its dirty in case i get held up.

And I need a dealer for eggs once my chicken eggs are done :gig

Depending on the laws for your state i would be glad to help!

I'm in Virginia... Not sure on the laws. I live on agricultural zoned land.
