Yes, doing research is very important. I started getting a nuc. THE other way to obtain a colony of bees is to buy a package of them. Bee aware of the varorra mite as that is arguably the worst problem for them right now

I had Buckfast bees. They were by far the meanest bees that I have ever had. I will not purchase any bees from them.

I can highly recommend Noble Apiaries own personal line of queens. For me, they have produced the gentlest and most productive Italian bees that I have ever had or been around.

Non-Africanized bees should never present a problem to you. Unfortunately, you live far enough south that you could be affected by the Africans.

Normally dealing with regular honeybees would only present a danger when working with the hive. Routine day to day life, honeybees are not out looking to sting anyone. They can be attracted to long hair and the fragrances that it may have due to the use of shampoos and/or hair sprays. If a honey bee gets tangled in your hair, kill it immediately. If you don't, it will eventually work its way in deep enough that it will sting you.

I don't have a problem with bees for the most part. I leave them alone, they leave me alone, we're all good. I might look into keeping a hive or two if/when I get some property that is larger than the .14 acre lot I'm on .

All you need for a hive is about 2 square feet. They will forage for honey in a 3 mile radius from the hive

Buck fast or bee weaver?

I had both. The Bee Weaver weren't quite as bad as the Buckfast. Both were prone to excessive swarming. The Buckfast would sting if you just walked past their hive.

I was just looking at the bee weaver queen description an de no where does it say anything about gentleness! Maybe I’ll just requeen with my own queens. No African here and my current queen bee is amazing.
