I'm sure it will hold way over 100 eggs maybe 200.yes it's from fish market.If you go to any fish market in morning they will usually give them to you.Especially during Salmon season they don't reuse them they just throw away.

Envious here. Completely landlocked with no fish market within hundreds of miles.
The vet had mentioned they get coolers in, but I think they forgot. I've got 2 more coolers sitting here plus parts, now I just have to make them. And I've got a large one that needs some more tweaking. Mr. DD is officially worried.

Next time your at super market check with butcher in meat dept.They get meat delivered in styrofoam containers

Also fruit and veg. I get scraps from a fruit and veg seller and I often get them in styrofoam boxes

Kiki you inspired me to try to ghetto rig my incubator that I lost tubing and the power supply for. found the tubing in my spray bottle was long enough and almost thick enough to fit into my brinsea mini II eco so I'm going to silicone it in and turns out my hubby's old face shaver plug fits into the the power supply area and I have it running and getting up to temp on that haha. Now I can move some of the growing eggs over to that to either keep incubating or to hatch in!

We have ten duck hen's and three drakes. Eggs are collected daily. The shells are much harder than chicken eggs. And the eggs are delicious. I currently have 29 eggs in the incubator. No Baluts here!!


I can honestly say that I no longer candle eggs as often as I did when I first started incubating 15 years ago. The constant opening and closing the incubator creates temperature and humidity fluctuations. Now I candle as the eggs go in the incubator, on day 10 and then again when going into lockdown.
Your experiment and rigged incubator is an "experiment" and this is your first time incubating. I'm re-living that 1st time thrill right along with you! Fingers are crossed these gems make it thru hatch.

Just woke and went to go check on the eggs. I Bout pooped my pants when I noticed the room was pitch black!!!

The light bulb burnt out!!

Wake up Kiki...the thermostat was just working. Phew.


Back to sleep. I'll read all these pages I am behind in the morning when I wake for the day.
