Jet noise - the sound of freedom.

Lived around air bases all my life. I still tune it out half the time. Even the sonic booms faded into the background. China closet would rattle and all the guests would jump. We kept on going. Fond memories...

F-16s with blue thunderbirds painted on them?
I couldn't see detail.
I was just guessing what they were called based on the pictures of what is linked under the performers tab.
I don't know a thing about flying machines.

LOL - yes, I understand. Different backgrounds. I still annoy Crazy Lady when I sit down to watch a movie and can't stand the "Hollywood interpretation" of flying machines.

"You ain't been lost until you've been lost at Mach 3."

I get tickled when people move into the flight path of the local airport and then are upset when planes come and go all day. If you don't like the noise, find a different neighborhood 30 miles away. Same with train tracks, interstate highways, shooting ranges and concert venues. People are noisy. People with big machines are noisier.

Regular airplanes...all day over head. I don't even hear them.

These jets though are loud. They don't bother me one bit I think the sounds is amazing.

It's been a bit of a tough week for me on chicken front. First, we finally did the deed and culled "Big", one of the two finalists for my keeper rooster. He and Handsome were starting to squabble more aggressively, so I had to make a call. I'm going to miss the big, dumb pretty guy. Now, I'm steeling myself to do Duke, as he has definitely slowed way down this Fall, and I know I need to do it before he and Handsome start getting into it. Gah! I hate this part of chicken keeping.

Now, one of my meaties has a slow/sour crop. First time I've had a meat bird with this. I've separated, withheld food, given her yoghurt, olive oil, medication. She's quite alert and surprisingly active, but her crop is HUGE. It's making me feel ill to look at it. She's still pooping and her crop shrinks somewhat after 12 hours without food. She still too small to really think about butchering and she doesn't seem to be suffering, so I'm holding off for now. The poor meat birds have such short lives, I really hate it when I feel they are not enjoying a quality life.

In that picture it looks to be a straight comb which would mean it's not a brahma. It could be just the picture though!
Ok, finally got the pictures to upload.

White Rock. The white rock was feeling left out of the photo shoot, so had to take her picture too. The dark spot on her back is actually a gray feather.

You addict!

Had an interesting/frustrating experience yesterday...
At 2 pm the hubby went to check cows in our pasture in a nearby town so I gathered eggs in the henhouse and candled the eggs under the broodies. Then while in the process of replenishing hay in the nest boxes, a huge chicken commotion started in the barn and birds were frantically running back into the hen house.

As I ran to the hen house doorway, I see a bushy tailed dog running into the back of the barn. I closed the big barn door trapping the coyote in the barn  and called the chickens into the henhouse and secured their doors.

Because we have a lot of equipment in the barn and stored fuel, etc. I decided to load the gun with rat shot to give the coyote a good butt blast, but the gun mis-fired 4 times!!! The coyote is evading me running around the barn from the shop to the wood stack to the calving pen and in and around the equipment. :he

In the process of trying to get the coyote, I find a dead hen on the floor in the calving pen...an obvious fresh kill. I took her to the front of the barn to dispose of later.

So now I'm waiting for hubby to get home with the big guns. We check every nook and cranny in the barn with flashlights and loaded guns. It is nowhere to be found. We think it may have scrambled up and over the calving pen gate by shimmying under the chain link top. :th

We have never had a coyote visit this early in the day, but it was evident that this was not the first visit. Hopefully it will be the last...at least for a while.

Wow, what a day. Sorry about your chicken

I think you were dealing with Wily E. Coyote.
