➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I remember that one, but Crazy Lady doesn't like whiskey flavor so I found another. Still searching.

Did neighbor help catch chicken? Or just look at you in a concerned way? I have a lot of concerned neighbors, but they usually don't help.
I'll look again. Did you post the recipe or someone else did?

I have a generic triple antibiotic oitment. It doesn't say pain relief on it, but what is the ingredient(s) I should be avoiding.

She has Blu-Kote on her. Should I be concerned about her picking at herself? She can reach the wound. This is a very small hen (Leghorn x) should I worry about her getting cold or going into shock for whatever reason?

Both have heat available to them just in case. One of the hens who was attacked is a broody who was kicked outside because I don't want her to brood.

I'm not sure but I think possibly pramoxcine hci based on this picture? And it might not even be bad, can't remember where I read it, need to research again, but if it doesn't say with pain relief on it or "external analgesic" on the back next to the ingredients listed as "purpose" it's probably fine.

Homemade cranberry sauce. Cranberry salad. Dehydrated cranberries for salad & muffins. Chicken food. Should I continue? :)

I should make cranberry sauce. Turned out SO much better than the canned "high fructose corn syrup" stuff. Between the cinnamon, cloves, brown sugar and the heavenly smell while simmering, it was delightful. And we didn't have any leftover. Made more for Christmas feast and it went very well with ham.

Very true! Wish I thought of that. Oh well, dad likes it more sour and it rose so there's more bread part than I thought there'd be. It's still good. A bit sour but good.

@Texas Kiki - which thread were we exchanging cranberry sauce recipes? I can't find what I made last year. Found the basis for the squash soup, but not the cranberry one.
@R2elk - were you the one that posted the cranberry sauce?

The memory is the second thing to go. :old

Sounds delicious.

The Hurricane one.

Hurricane?

TBH, these were some pretty stupid foxes.
They didn't go after my ancient arthritic hen, or my two disabled hens.
Instead they chose the meanest, strongest hens I have in my flock.
The one only got a hen by her cushion before running away (the adult) and the young Vixen caught a hen and all she did was bite her back then run off. She had her for a minute and couldn't make the kill. Good for me she failed but, jeez girl get your life together lmao.

Lol wow those were some dumb foxes.

And man was a sight when the school bus rolled up. In my PJ's and bathrobe, chasing an injured hen through the bramble next to the road :th

OMG :lau

Nope, not me. I killed my memory many years ago. I was using a bow saw the other day. I was here by myself. I know the last place that I used it but obviously must have moved it somewhere else. I have no memory of where I put it and have not found it since.:old

OMG

:lau
Maybe the kids thought you were your mom running around in a robe.

:lau

It was the other Bob Nutty. Not R2 Bob.
You were close.

True

Haha lol. My 5th grader neighbor asked me if I was okay :gig

LOL

Lol.

Oh my that's funny Cy.

Very.

Aren't I? :p jk
I'm going out first thing in the morning to check on the injured hens. I'm sure they'll recover but I'm still worried.
Should I flush the bite wound tomorrow? I didn't have the time before I had to go to work.

She'll probably be fine.

Lol just stare

You already put the blue Cote right?
That is probably good enough.

Agree

Also then hen with the bite wound has a bald spot now. I'm thinking I should get her a hen saddle to prevent her skin from getting frostbitten before the feathers grow back.

Probably a good idea

Lol no. She just walked away quickly.
In the end my 6'5" dad had to reach in and catch her because my arms weren't long enough.

Lol nice

I might have got tired of searching and just threw the good stuff in the pan. It's happened before. I ate all the evidence too!

Lol no evidence.

Yea! DAD! Woohoo!

Awesome

:woot
He tried to run over the adult fox. Sure sent the sucker running lol.

LOL OMG I bet

NOPE. None are laying. I'm getting 1 white egg from the 6 Leghorns.
1 raising the babies & she molted hard.
1 recovering from a hard molt.
4 looking rough with scruffy feathers. But I'll get 3 eggs occasionally. Occassionally. Like twice a month.

The 6 EEs aren't laying at all. Redhead will hop in my lap for BOSS. Kiki's Yellow will demand BOSS. Only 2 out of 6 are bearded. 5 have grey legs and Kiki's Yellow is bright yellow-green and is the only one squatting. The other 4 will stay at arms length. Crazy, meh. Just don't like being touched.

The 2 hatched by the broody are 12 weeks. No one thinks the cockerel will lay. He's got until he crows because he is aggressive and pushes everyone he can off food. The black girl is very shy. Getting big, but shy. We shall see. Halloween eggs didn't happen. Thanksgiving? I'm hopeful.
Good to hear they’re all healthy and accounted for, at least! My one EE has grown out of the crazy as well; I can’t touch her but MAN is she beautiful.

I’m still not quite sure what I’m going to do with my cockerel when puberty hits. He is very strange.. not quite a pushover but avoids everyone, especially me. When I walk into the huge pen he goes and chills in the tiny coop by himself until I leave.
Fellow bone lover!
I found this neat mummified anole the other day and thought of you. “I wonder if CSA could tell me how old this is?”

You’re right, pramoxine (aka pramocaine) is the pain relief ingredient in neosporin+.

For what it’s worth, the topical -caine phobia regarding chickens is largely a “better safe than sorry” kind of thing. Local surgery IS avoided with birds because the risk of lidocaine toxicity is high, but there is little to no scientific research (that I have found) done on topical analgesics being harmful enough to kill when used on small wounds.

I agree with Tess.
You don't have to worry so much about using Neosporin with pain relief stuff in it.
The amount is so small it won't hurt your bird. If you have it use it.
