➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I think Kilo is a boy!!! The feather pattern is still not like the older girls, and some of the black feathers have an iridescent green sheen to them when the light hits just right. Plus the silver laced Wyandotte cockerel and Kilo had one of the little dominance staring matches where they fluff out their neck feathers, I haven't seen any of the girls do that.

Remind me again, this is what Brahma? Dark? If dark then 100% I would say cockerel

Thanks I forgot!

The end of the yr is a busy and emotional time for me and this yr add on health problems to boot. Also it's really the main time that I like to do any baking. Throughout the majority of the yr it's rare for me to bake a lot of sweets but get to Nov and Dec.... that's when I get the urge. I cooked for Thanksgiving this yr and in the honor of my mom (that passed away last yr and who's birthday is in Nov. hence the emotional time) I cook for an army even tho it's just really for a small handful of family. It's exhausting and I love it. The next day, however, I pretty much lay around and do nothing because I am flat out fatigued. But I do it to myself every yr and I will continue to do so because I guess I am just a glutton for punishment. LOL! I fixed a pecan pie cheesecake for the first time and it was soooooo good!

Was only my 2nd time making a cheesecake from scratch. I was proud of myself. We did take our 3 male pekin ducks to be processed. I guess I needed that detachment this first time around. The guy was nice. We didn't watch him do it or anything but he did indulge us and our questions and showed us around the equipment that he uses etc. I tried roasting one of them. It was good but it would've been better had I not overcooked it. I scored the skin nicely and it rendered out the fat nicely so we had a yummy crispy skin.

I am going to try again tonight, going about it a little differently than I did before and definitely keep a better eye on it. Hopefully I will do a better job this time around. We has a scare with one of our Australorps. She was super lethargic, wouldn't get up and come see me. Didn't even want to get up and move away when I tried getting her out from under the chicken coop. Had bad diarrhea. Has been giving us intact shell-less or broken soft shelled eggs. Definitely having some reproductive issues. I ended up bring her in the house because I didn't know what was wrong with her and whether or not it was something contagious. I didn't know if she'd even make it through the night. She pulled through tho. She stayed inside for almost a week while we took care of her. Upped her calcium. I ended up changing their feed from flock raiser to a layena with omega 3 (I think it was?) to make sure they ALL were getting calcium. We have oyster shell out in a few places but I guess she wasn't getting enough so I am hoping the diet change will fix the issues. It being winter isn't helping. I am thinking she mainly had a crop issue. ACV in her water seemed to help her and her stools started looking better after the change in diet. But she is out back with the flock and everyone is doing great. Even the littles. Although I still haven't combined them. Now that I changed the feed I am worried because they don't need the extra calcium yes? Does it affect males in a negative way?
:hugseveryone. I hope you all are doing well.

Been there, done that.
Need to get that pecan cheesecake pie recipe. :drool:drool:drool
