➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Day 7 of the double I set to test the bator. I’m still sticking to my “don’t want it to hatch” guns..watch them hatch and both be boys. :th The embryos are on opposite ends. The air cell is larger than I’d like but that’s partially my fault because I forgot to refill the water.

Ohhh I thought that you had reserved a puppy. I guess I’m just used to people wanting a specific color/sex/size from the litter. Makes more sense to find a breeder that doesn’t then.

I haven’t reserved any dog yet. There was a litter that I really really really wanted a puppy from and may still try to get but now I moreso want to find a house or apartment so am trying to hold off on the dog thing lol

And no need to hide! Lol a lot of breeders do do that but I’ve mostly seen it in BYBs and farm/working dogs and stuff but a lot of show breeders or sporting dogs don’t let you pick a puppy and choose one for you. I actually kind of prefer it cause I figure they know best and can best match the right puppy to each family since they usually know the temperament and traits, energy level, etc. of each puppy so well. Plus I want one that health tests and stuff and most of those don’t let you choose either. And since I want to do sports and stuff with it if I do get a dog, I want one that has enough drive and energy to do what I want so I figure an experienced breeder will know which one has the most drive or least drive or whatever. But they do have to be experienced and have been breeding a while and had a lot of litters, someone just starting out or an accidental litter might not necessarily know enough to tell that kind of thing.

And most breeders, even the show ones, do try to take into consideration any preferences on color and sex of the dog but they do mention that temperament is most important and sometimes they may not always have a dog for you in that particular litter in which case you usually can wait for the next one or get refunded. The more specific/picky you are, the longer it can take to get a puppy. For me personally, I am not picky at all and just want the best temperament and structure. Structure is another really important one because a good, experienced breeder should be able to tell things like if the dog’s structure may be a tad off or have something that could potentially cause injuries in something like lots of turns and jumps like agility and it should just be a pet, or maybe that dog is built perfectly for agility, or it is a perfect specimen for the conformation ring or whatever.

That’s why I want to buy one from a good breeder because it just makes it easier on me to know from the beginning if it is going to make a good working/sporting dog rather than putting the time in and then finding out he’s really prone to injuries or has no work ethic or whatever.

That said, you can of course find plenty of dogs with great work ethic and decent structure from shelters and rescues too but I personally think for my next dog I want a well bred puppy.

And yeah, I wish more breeders left them on but most don’t so it’s hard to find one that does. Guess I gotta keep looking.

And sorry for the novel lmao got a bit carried away :lau

No need for apologies! I love seeing more points of view other on breeder tendencies. I guess I’m more experience oriented in English bulldogs but we haven’t had a litter yet anyways so all of my “experience” has been observing other breeders (who have waiting list upon waiting list upon waiting list :th) . I think I really like your idea much better though. Temperaments (especially in bulldogs) are much more important to the dogs and their futures in the families.
