➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I found an egg shell on teh dam yesterday. Good news bad news scenario. Good news was it was on land, bad news the raccoons found it before I did. It is tough to know when to go look. I know peeps on the duck forum say their girls always lay in the mornings but I don't want to walk over there to look and disturb them. By the time they move to another area my days have started and I can't look till around 2 ish.
Not sure about duck eggs because I haven't ever set brand new fresh eggs before but with chicken eggs I think I could tell by day 3.

We have hundreds that roost on the high power line towers. Natures clean up crew!

I will see them every now and again. A few here or there picking at some roadkill. I've just never had them on my property in that great of numbers. There had to be over 50 of them. It was a sight to see for sure.

:thWe are getting ice drizzle right now and more winter weather coming...bad enough...then our friend posted this on his Facebook page last night. Alan Broerse is a retired police officer turned weather chaser/earthquake reporter/artist/etc.

Forgot to post this yesterday but we finally have more than one layer!! I think we actually have 3 layers now! :D

I collected eggs for the first time in a while yesterday (2 or 3 days judging by the 3 EE eggs in there) BUT in addition to the EE eggs there were also 4 other eggs!! 3 similar looking and one smaller one which is why I say I think it is two more laying again instead of just one more. Smaller and a slightly different shape and when I made breakfast this morning, the yolk was also much lighter. There was also a broken egg in there but I couldn’t find any shell, they maybe ate it by now, but some shells had yolk on them, and there was a little bit left in the box, on the shavings, so cleaned that up. But anyway, finally more layers!! My EE has been the only one laying since like December or January. I think late December. And she has laid every day since she started again or close. We did have a few others laying at one point but that only lasted like 2 days  most stopped in the fall, maybe October. One of my EEs stopped in August and still hasn’t started back up again!! The others stopped sometime between August and October. I think most stopped September, October. So loooooonggggggg time without eggs and then long time with only 1 layer. So glad we are finally getting more eggs lol

I guess it takes longer to start back up again now that they are getting older. I can’t wait to get the new chicks in April hah

My girls lay at different times. Collecting their eggs becomes a daily duck egg hunt for the 10 to 15 eggs.
Some lay thru the night (assuming early morning hours) before I let them out of the coop by 6:30 am. ...5 to 7.
Other girls rush to water as soon as they leave the coop then run to the garden to several favorite laying spots where I pick up their eggs between 7:30 to 8:30 am. ...3 to 5.
The rest of the duck hens will lay either in the garden or favorite resting spots around the barn during the remainder of the day until they are penned at 5:30 pm. ...another 2 to 3.
They coop up around 8:30 pm.

That being explained, I set 51 duck eggs and 11 chicken eggs this morning in the cabinet incubator.

@dpenning I will candle all the eggs on day seven when I usually candle to chicken eggs.
When you candle duck eggs on day 5 (which is the eager push on the envelope) you will definitely see a difference between the clears and the fertile. The fertile eggs will have a rosy glow inside while the clears will be white.
I will really begin seeing veins by day 10.
