➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

A falconry permit is required before you can legally possess any raptors.

This owl was approximately 18" tall with at least a 4' wingspan. It can clip your finger off with one bite.
I bet it would look cute sitting on the back of the couch watching tv with you.
lol

Some of the guineas decided to leave their run this morning. I opened the door so they could get back into the coop. While I was standing beside a Rocky mountain Juniper, I heard a rustling beside and looked over to see this within 5' of my face.

Surprisingly it stayed put long enough that I was able to put the guineas back in their run and get the camera and take some pics.

After it moved to the spruce tree, seven Blue Jays decided to harass it.

I could have sworn that it said that it would be very happy to visit @Texas Kiki 's quail.

Wow! So beautiful. There is just something majestic and regal about them. It’s almost like it’s looking back as if saying, “I can wait. Until next time.....”.

Just do what? Get the cheap one? Or spend the money on the good one?

And with a lot of things I tend to buy it and then not use it or forget about it BUT. I really really want quail and once I get them, I will want to hatch and expand my population/numbers of quail and possibly hatch chickens too and if I ever move somewhere else, I will probably hatch my own chickens too so I have a feeling I will be using an incubator a lot unlike most things I buy mostly because I feel like I will get a major hatching bug LOL

I didn’t build one yet but I am planning to soon. I need to build one for my new chicken chicks anyway. Although I am thinking I am going to brood those in the coop or run. But the quail I’ll probably brood in their adult cage. Idk. I am going to build cages soon. And yes, I have a place for one. Lots of potential places.
Be sure you build your brooder and cages using 1/2 in hardware wire instead of 1 inch . Baby quail are tiny! And anything that can get its paw thru 1 inch openings can grab a baby easily. Sparrows can easily wiggle thru 1 inch chicken wire to gobble up feed.

This brand is cheaper on Amazon. Well, on my TSC website it is $149. The price may vary by store location, I don't know. At Amazon it is only $120.

Decent difference if you choose to go with it. And is available on Prime if that matters.
Be sure to do price comparisons by calculating in the shipping costs. A great price on Amazon doesn't show shipping. Having Amazon Prime helps.

Spectacular!

Those work very well. I stabbed Styrofoam incubators with a skewer to make a pilot hole as close to the top of an eggs height as I could in the side and stuck the probe in. If it's removed just put a piece of tape over the hole

Be ready to intervene if necessary at hatch if they are too big. It's a timing thing. It can be done and done quickly and with success.

Get a Little Giant still air with turners.
I know how to work that one and I will help you.

I have one, it's great for doing spot checks.

Seriously consider the FARM INNOVATORS PRO 4250. It runs about $130 @ TSC
Holds temp and humidity very well, good viewing windows. I was impressed with the quality. Mine works great.

I almost went with that one or the Harris Farms Nurture Right 360 that is also offered at TSC.

It is cheaper thru the store than on Amazon (again, price may vary by location, Idk). It is small but still does a decent amount of eggs. Has a good viewing window to see. Induced airflow. Auto turner which automatically stops 3 days before hatching. It seemed like a good beginner option. I ended up going with a Hovabator. After all was said and done, I wanted a little bit larger of one. But that was just my personal preference and thinking ahead of what I see myself using it for.

Maybe you don't know this, but my boys once told me the word "gullible" isn't in the dictionary. That took me about 5 seconds too.

Thank you all!! Very helpful!! A lot to consider. Glad to know that thermometer works well. And I do have Amazon Prime.

Oh and I was planning on using 1/2 inch or 1/4 inch for babies then 1/2 for adults. I didn’t know hardware cloth came in 1 inch size.
