➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Wow that is scary! But quick thinking on your part and glad you saved the nest and eggs!! Good job! Hopefully she stays put and accepts the new nest! :fl:fl
Good save!! Now let's hope she keeps settled. My fingers and toes are crossed!
Well....greeted the morning with Maggie standing in the doorway of her barrel...not sitting on her eggs. Checked her an hour later, outside the barrel...not sitting on her eggs. She had moved them around a little and messed up the ring of pine needles.
Hubby said she had been off the nest the whole time that were outside.
So, I let the ducks out to freerange and Maggie tried to get out of her little pen. MI opened the gate and she followed the other ducks to the front yard. She did not even go to her old nest under the Scotch Pine.
I gathered up Maggie's eggs and took them to the incubator room. Wiped them off with a dry paper towel, candled them...only one was not developed. They were cool to the touch but look close to hatching. By 8:30 am the eggs are in the hatcher coming up to temperature.

Just checked two of the eggs and saw movement in both...maybe they will hatch soon.
I have 23 chicks due on May 7.

Feel like s**t today lol
Get up and take a glass of water outside.
Walk around your garden and see the progress your plants are making....one day at a time!
Make a plan to weed one section each day. Give those weeds to your chickens and snip little pieces for your babies.
Start your health plan...one day at a time.
Eat some protein and at least one green vegetable for dinner tonight.

I am a diabetic on injectable insulin. Was diagnosed in 2004. Did not work enough on correcting my diet or health....my fault I'm on insulin...could have dropped the high sugar back then.
Now at 65 I'm trying to reduce my weight, reduce my insulin intake and trying to build strength with activity and exercise.
Do it now before you are too late!

Maybe if you hatch the ducklings she will take them back? I'm hoping she does.

I have a mystery on my hands folks. The two "Partridge Chanteclers" from the Wilco are most certainly NOT Partridge Chanteclers. Our dear Banty has assured me of this. In light of that, what the heck are they? They have long necks, thick yellow legs, either pea or some sort of cushion comb, and the coloring of a speckled Sussex. One appears to have small poofs forming on her cheeks (the one with more white on her). My best guess at this point is Russian Orloffs with very small or late developing muffs/beards. Anyone else have any thoughts on this? If they are Orloffs, I would be delighted. I was told that they could not get them at the feed store. Apologies for the low quality photos. They are crappy cell phone pics.

Aw that stinks she abandoned them!! She probably assumed they drowned or something when the water was pouring in. Hopefully they hatch!

And thanks, those are all good suggestions. Although I don’t even have anything in the garden yet.

And sorry about the diabetes and insulin! I definitely need to work harder to change before I become diabetic myself.

That said, the reason I feel like shit today is not related to any of that. At least not that I think

Do Swedish Flower have muffs/beards?

Do Swedish Flower have muffs/beards?
I haven't a clue.
Ideal supplies the feed store so I looked on there to see if anything matched, but I couldn't pick out anything other than the Orloffs. I did not see Swedish Flower birds on their site, but wouldn't that be lucky? I can't get over their giant, yellow legs. They're HUGE.

Apparently they are a landrace breed and not really a “breed” so their looks can vary tremendously so it is possible! Although most of the ones I saw while Googling and in articles did not. But some did have crests, others did not. They do seem to match in appearance though, the scrawny, long bodied/long necked look, Speckled Sussex coloring (though coloring varies a lot too), etc. but obviously if the hatchery does not carry that breed then I suppose it is not possible.... :idunno idk
