You probably wont get any as I'm thinking that is a full box!Just placed my order with Ideal!
Now all that is left is to call and tell them that I do not want male packing peanuts.

I am so excited!![]()
I mean, it seems like a lot to me (17) but I know some hatcheries won't even let you order less than 25 soYou probably wont get any as I'm thinking that is a full box!
Yes ma’am!She's from north Texas?!?![]()
I like them but all of my stock from them are super tiny even though they’re all large fowl breeds. We also ended up with two boys out of 9 ordered pullets so 7/9 were pullets. They say they add them "if they feel it is necessary." Since the order is for mid June, I really don't think they will need extras. But I am going to call just in case. I do NOT want to deal with boys!!!
Can I ask how your experience was with Ideal? This is my first time mail ordering chicks and I am a little nervous. Any tips appreciated![]()

The local feed store is supplied by Ideal and I couldn't be happier with them. Not sure about any rooster counts as of yet, but I'd not be unhappy with an "oops" of the Russian Orloffs or the Cream Brabanters. I LOVE my Hamburgs out of them. Friendliest little guys ever.Good to know about the size thing. Makes me very glad that I ordered hens from two of their heaviest breeds. So even if they are undersized relative to the standard, they should still be okay around my Roux. My biggest concern is that I not have teeny tiny hens with a big rooster.
And sorry you had bad luck with males! My dad and I ordered a couple more birds than we think we will need, just in case something like that happens. Fingers crossed though that we are lucky and get all healthy girls!
I feel you! Our Australorp rooster is huge, and passes on his height but I always worry about him being on our tiny girls.Good to know about the size thing. Yay! Glad to hear it! All the places here order from Privett so it is nice to have friends who are familiar with Ideal. And man, how cool do Orloffs look? Can't wait to get mine. The local feed store is supplied by Ideal and I couldn't be happier with them. This is why Hans met his demise. He was actually quite friendly towards me, but he would NOT leave the bantams alone and really injured one of my EE hens. I don't care about having a rooster that bad.I feel you! Our Australorp rooster is huge, and passes on his height but I always worry about him being on our tiny girls.
Fingers crossed here as well.![]()
