➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Is it weird that my first thought is how the meat would be hard to see in black bean chili but an interesting contrast in white bean chili?
I think I want to go buy a black meat chicken to cook today. I wonder if anyone would eat it? Hm

It's all what you're used to, I guess. I know someone who won't eat eggs unless they have a white shell. Her mom told her that eggs are all brown until they're sanitized for sale at the store so now she thinks brown eggs are "dirty". No amount of logic can get her past that. She had no words for my egg carton of various colors other than, "I only eat eggs from the store."

You are quite the experimenter. How would you cook it? How would you serve it?

I imagine a plate with 2 slices of meat, one light and one dark.
"Why is one dark?"
"oh, that was probably the road side down. Let me know which one tastes better." ;)
Roadkill - it's what's for dinner!

Can you take pictures the next time you butcher a silkie?:pop
Probably not. It was accidental that I have the birds in the first place, and I have forbidden the three remaining hens from breeding.

Full story: my dad was raised around OEGBs, and he thought that all bantams are OEG bantams. So he bought six "straight run banties" at TSC. Well, he likes traditional chickens (crests are dumb; feathered feet are sort of cool, but impractical; bright colors are pretty) and he didn't want white silkies.

I took them off his hands and raised them. I butchered the cockerels because I really don't want a flock of half-silkies (especially not Ideal-quality, straight-comb, unbearded, barely fluffy at all silkies) So now I have two hens who are not allowed to hatch their own eggs, four half-silkie girls, and I have no intention of getting any more. (Incidentally, the half-silkie cockerels had black legs and wings, but mostly white breast meat. It was cool.)
