➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

So glad the eggs are alive!

@PirateGirl I live in wildfire country too. It's terrifying this time of year. There is a fire burning about 20 miles away right now, busy destroying some cattle ranchers' livelihoods. I think they got some containment overnight, but it's going to be a hot and windy day. This time of year, I'm always on the scanners, trying to be prepared. I cannot believe they still allow private fireworks out here.

Hot and windy here too. "Monsoon" season generally starts around now. Usually we have more snow over winter and it keeps things wet enough until monsoon season that we are safe. In summer because of a jet stream shift and the way it hits the mountains generally it rains almost every afternoon for a bit. This weather pattern has not happened yet, so we try and patiently wait. One day the weather report will change and it will say 30% chance of rain every day for 6 weeks or more!

Those are the only ducks I know of that are all yellow at birth. Number three was dead, right? You can do an eggtopsy on that and find out the breed.
They were not yellow.
They were white.
I know zero about duck breeds.

Before I start the mega quote, no new thread, just update the original post with links to your candling etc. congrats on the live balutties!

My brother wants me to go look now bc 2 of 5 are out on the ground. I'm afraid to go look in case they need care... Anybody know about baby wild rabbits? Please tell me they look old enough to feed themselves.

Leave them. Maybe they will remember and leave your garden alone. Also babies hang out close to "home" for awhile. The mama may go out without them, but she will come back when it's safe (when you aren't standing there).

I think this has been andwered. Hay is feed, probably more expensive too. Straw (I think a different plant even) is waste and can be bedding.

All our trees are conifers! There are slash piles of branches people set out when the town chipping program comes to their neighborhood. It's all part of the wildfire mitigation plan. No leaves.

My friend once said that her dogs eat rabbit turds like popcorn! I think all dogs view rabbits and chickens as treat dispensers.

Rabbit are pests. Rabbits carry disease. Rabbits are great coyote snacks. It's hard to say if we have more rabbits or coyotes there's so many of both!

In other news ther are now 10 wildfires in Colorado. I am scared. The one by my house (about 8 miles away currently) blew up to 1500 acres yesterday. We knew it was bad when they sent us a plane. Evacuations have begun. The view from my house...
