➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

@PirateGirl I tried to feed the chicks some BOSS several weeks ago. They weren't impressed and turned their then little beaks up at it. I now have 5 sunflowers erupting from the grass in the yard, much too close to each other. Well, this bag of boss has viable seeds. Hmmm. The big chickens haven't let any of theirs grow. Or last 5 minutes. The way they sling the cherry tomatoes around, I'm guessing the whole run will be covered in tomatoes by Christmas. How festive!

@RUNuts first pellet gun kill was tonight. If you recall my cat has been bringing me things that aren't quite dead, and while I fully endorse his rodent hunting, I do feel bad for the critters after the cat plays with them, so vole mercy kill number 1 tonight. It worked out and this was the main reason for the pellet gun. No firearms use allowed in town limits so we had to find a safe and neighborly alternative.

Congratulations. How big was the vole? Will you have it mounted or feed it to the chickens?

For a cat play toy, I'd probably use a sharp stick. Not much sport, but I support your choice. I had to finish off an opossum the dogs got a hold of. :sick I sympathize.

I really do need to go to the range...

When we were kids my sister and I had to take care of an opossum the dog got. She was so little at the time she wasn't strong enough to hold the dog, so at a very young age the shovel and the opossum became her responsibility. Those critters are creepy at the best of times and it give us this toothy grin I will never forget.

You forgot, we have no trees! No sharp sticks. Sometimes I use a big block of firewood.

Due to wildfire danger there is a complete shooting ban in the area, so we ventured out and found a new to us public range. It's got a much nicer and more fun set up than others we'd been to.

@Tesumph

I need to detach my vines from it. It is missing some teeth:(

Is that egg 1, 2, or 3 (in relation to the 3 candling pics from yesterday)?
This is the egg that I think is furthest along. The biggest air cell. This one was on the left.
This is the one egg I keep thinking is ready to hatch. It's fooling me.

Next up is the one with the smallest air cell. It quit on me.
