I think I know why the broody killed her chick. She’s not acting like her normal broody self, I think she sat for too long and was going to give up. She still has her fake egg and she has left it several times already this morning. It was just poor timing unfortunately.

@casportpony sees lots of Muscovy ducklings, maybe she can identify it. I don't know if there are distinguishable differences at hatch.

Muscovy are a different species than other ducks. They can breed with ducks but the offspring cannot reproduce. Exactly like donkey +horse = sterile mule. You probably already knew that but jic thought I'd throw it out there.

I need more Muscovy and Pekin info.
