Is there any way you can get a temporary pen up? Trust me when I say that ducks are MISERY to raise inside, and it only gets worse from here. They never stop pooping. They get into even more water trouble. And they eat when they're bored, which is always.No. Not ready yet. Am hoping in another week, 2 absolute max. We are just going to have to deal with it. I see the humor in it. I certainly don't regret anything. I'm learning as I go. Just wanted to vent/share. Definitely making memories over here.... They are the cutest little fluffy trouble-making stinkers that I've ever owned! LOL

Thanks for sharing this.... i'm already tired of changing the water out three times a day... was going to try this setup this afternoon. I'll make sure they can't knock it over!Yesterday, I decided to try the milk jug with holes cut in it as a waterer for the ducklings again. Everything seemed to be fine. The littles were drinking from it with no problems and any spillage was being caught in a dish underneath. Yay!
I had to leave for a bit. DH gets home before I do and calls me to let me know that the jug was a fail. The ducklings knocked the damn thing over and a half gallon of water filled the bottom of the tote we have them in as a brooder box!He thought that was a good time to take the ducklings for a field trip outside. He brought the tote outside with him and dumped everything out and cleaned it etc. The chickens squawked and bawked as they came around to check the ducklings out. The ducklings sat there looking all cute, completely ignoring the chicks. DH came up with the idea of putting this mini bungee around the handle and attaching it to the rack that the jug sits on. Now they can’t move the jug without moving the rack, and they can’t move the rack because they have to stand on it to get to the jug. Win/Win!
Woke up this morn to check on them and everything is still where it should be.

The ducklings are trying to eat the pee pads that I have down! And they also try to eat the pine shavings underneath!OMGOSH! They like toddlers that put everything in their mouths! Plz tell me they outgrow this phase?!? Are the pine shavings going to hurt them? Can't they choke? UGH! I was in there trying to clear out the old pee pads and put new ones down and freaked out one of the Pekin and it ran toward its water, AND TRIED GOING THRU THE JUG! And of course, got stuck. Now picture this. I have the handle of the milk jug facing the wall. And I have a hole cut out on each of the sides facing the front. The dumb duck went thru one hole all the way to part way out the other hole.
If the poor thing wasn't panicking so bad and causing me to freak out because of it, I wish I could've gotten a picture of it. But my momma instincts kicked in and I had to rescue it right away. Had to try and wedge the one leg that was stuck part way in back out and then its wing and head thru both holes. And then the best part where I had to cuddle it telling her it'll be ok.
These ducklings are gonna drive me crazy! But I still love em!
ps,
Should I forego the pee pads now and just stick to pine shavings? It's just that the pee pads are so much easier to just roll up and get rid of.
It's only been 2 weeks ya'll!![]()
