Look, my dogs are NOT my peers. They're my servants. Every witch needs her familiar, right?I am not a monster like Conan though. The pupper is allowed on the bed when it is not is use cause it makes her fell more safe during storms. Also I am actually a huge pushover.
I can't stand dogs on any of my furniture. It's disgusting. They're dogs. They sleep on dog beds or the floor. I don't allow them in the kitchen and when they are in my house, they are laying in their spots. No playing indoors, no approaching the table for scraps.
Good night, you horrible biddy.I'm going to bed. I'm not going to let you yahoos steal another night of my sleep!
Night, scandalous not-prude.Good night, you horrible biddy.
Not with a broody. I am the queen of touching eggs at lock down when they're in an incubator. I think it is useful. You can change incubator conditions based off what you see, and you can catch malpos that might result from incubation hiccups. When they're under a broody, you can't really do anything but make it worse. Well, I suppose you could assist, as long as you have the world's nicest broody. Mine have a tendency to jump off the nest if I fiddle too much so I just play it safe and steer clear.
Eta: I candle broody eggs before lock down though, whenever they get off to eat.
You guys My bantam really hatched two chicks from my next door neighbor BOTH early.(I need to go look at my thread about it to see exactly when) But he collected those eggs, gave them to me and I walked to my coop and stuck them under her. I got home late one night and put my hands under her to be sure no one had laid in her nest and i about fell out when I felt two little completely dried off fluff balls. Everyone had told me they wouldn't hatch til say 21 but they hatched early. I belive it was day 19. Just checked thread... sorry it was Day 20 but still early.

Do whatever you want, they're your eggs. I'm just paranoid 'cause I've seen too many newbies (myself included) do something idiotic and ruin or almost ruin the hatch.I called the Leghorns flighty. But since this batch was handled SO much, it was our first batch of chickens, the broody fluffs up and growls. I lift her up. Take the white eggs. Check the fertile ones. She is content. No pecking. No attacking. All is good.
The Easter Eggers from the second batch weren't handled nearly as much and are not trusting at all. We are getting there. I still get the stink eye.
Thank you. Since you are just across the Sabine, weather is similar. I'll be doing my once a day checks on the eggs. See how many pop and when. Totally amazing.
Sounds like Batty doesn't want me to candle again. I'm good with that. Lockdown in T minus 2 hours...
My dogs have never really been barkers unless someone rings the doorbell or opens the garage. They just lean on me. Even the Chihuahua, she likes her own chair though.Ditto with my dog. I tolerate her because she isn't so needy like the other foster dogs. Any dog that thinks it's fun to stand by your side when you're reading a book and bark non stop is going to get cussed out and put outside!
I did a broody hatch earlier this year. 4 hatched on the afternoon of day 19, last guy hatched on day 20. I think the high ambient temps had something to do with it. Looking forward to seeing you little fluffers!I called the Leghorns flighty. But since this batch was handled SO much, it was our first batch of chickens, the broody fluffs up and growls.
