My father got this at a garage sale and gave it to me. My brother stopped by to see it but did not notice it because he was standing right in front of it with his back to it. It was even with his face so he got quite a surprise when he turned around to see it.

I sometimes do chicken runs in short sleeves when we're in the middle of one of those 0*F-as-a-high snaps. Hey, even you would get sick of bundling up eventually.

We do have this nifty invention called "radiant heating." It makes the floors warm and the air warm and you warm.

This house had radiant heat in the ceiling when we moved in. What kind of an idiot puts heat in the ceiling??? It was never even slightly warm (tho the roof was probably nice & toasty) & our electric meter would spin even when it wasn't on. We finally had to shut it off from the breaker.

You guys want to weigh in on who should be my keeper cockerel? I'm down to 2 finalists. They are both 16 weeks old.

First up is "Big". He is a huge English Orpington -- Cockoo Buff crossed with Columbian Blue. So far he is a big old marshmallow. No aggression, seems pretty happy right now at the bottom of the pecking order. Loud, but infrequent, crow. I so want to breed him for his looks, but am worried that he might be too big for the hens and that he might be too much the cream puff.

Next up is Handsome. He is a BCM (I think) that I got as a bonus egg from Papa's Poutry. He has stepped up to the leadership position amongst the 16 week olds. So far, no signs of aggression at all. More alert and watchful then Big. I love his big comb and he is a bit of a sentimental favorite as I helped him hatch.

My ducks are shedding (mounting?) like crazy! Very noticeable with the Pekins. White feathers are everywhere. This was from a few days ago. It’s even worse now.

I just filled up their pool and I already have to take a skimmer to it to get the feathers out.

I literally just took the hose out and they all got out and are now preening.They are so pretty.

They are both so pretty! I vote Mr. Handsome though. If the other one is the non-dominant, he might have a change of personality when he's suddenly the only rooster.

I don't have any experience with roosters as of yet so I can't really help on which to keep. That being said.... While both are handsome I really like the looks of Big. Now a question... Just because Big is the non dominant right now, his personality MIGHT change but it's not a guarantee is it? I mean, it would be good, if you were to keep him that is, to step up as a dominant now that the other is gone but it doesn't necessarily mean that he'll go from dr. jekyl to mr. hyde right? It CAN happen, but doesn't mean that it WILL? And can't you just reassert yourself as alpha and put him in his place? Now plz understand, I know I am WAAAAAY SUPER SIMPLIFYING. So basically I'm saying that I guess you'd have to ask your and decide if it would be worth your time and effort if that situation were to occur, right. That make sense? What other worst case scenarios am I not thinking about? Again, I don't have any experience with roosters as of yet so I'm curious.
