🐝💗Our Backyard Beekeeping Journey!💗🐝

I was thinking of pulling up the marigolds. I plant them to help keep stink bugs off my tomatoes. I've pulled up all the tomato plants (early; the deer destroyed the 'mater patch), so I don't need the marigolds. They're still blooming, so I'll leave them in case the bees get interested.
They kind of took over the Portulaca's. We got them for free at Fred Meyer, they were very wilted, but they came back, we brought home 3 flats. It was a great find.

Marigolds and Portulaca's , I plant both those type from seed. Although this year I missed Portulaca's. The marigold variety that I like is the LARGE Crackerjack. It is still blooming well at this time of season. Some of my other flowers already called it quits, even though we did not have a frost yet.

Crackerjack is the variety of marigold I have. I like that it's tall, so I can see it and not step on it when I'm working in the garden. I use my own saved seed and start them early.

I'll have to look into Portulaca. If @cavemanrich can grow it, I should be able to.

I found out this spring how tough marigolds are. I planted 3 seeds in each pot, and this time, ALL of the seeds grew! I decided I'd try to separate the plants in one of the pots, knowing that the roots would all be tangled together. The marigolds didn't seem to mind me separating them, even though I had to tear the roots apart! So I did the other pots, and every single plant said, "eh, I can handle that. No biggie."

We planted the Portulaca's from seed, but couldn't pass up the free deal on the Marigolds. 🙂

They are very tough and re-seed quickly.

You and I think alike :thumbsup
Fed the bees! I'm kind of getting antsy and want to do a mite check. Just don't have the time until next week.

Just went out to snap some flower pix, and wanted to share.
This is a poinsettia. It grows green leaves when in sunlight. This one is from last Christmas holiday. I try to keep plant for about 3 years. Then it seems to expire. I don't place into darkness to get them to change into the colors. Green is just fine by me. :old
