➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Like this? Brood patch. I noticed Ivy plucked about 3-4 days before she went broody.

I am going to get a better look here in a little while but it was completely bare. I mean it was smooth as a baby's bottom bare. Very soft but was weird to me because I just felt like feathers should be there. It was one of my australorps.

That is what most of my hens do as well. Have been fighting 7 hens who want to go broody. Let two have eggs last week just as the one from last month finished her clutch.
I have not set up my breed pens yet so eggs I have hatched in the incubator have been hit and miss on my Columbian Wyandotte.
The big 16x14 pen is already torn down and I'm working on revamping the other pens. The rain is slowing me down now...three days of 100%.
Need to finish the take down, use the tractor to replenish the ground level and work in a gentle slope for drainage. Then move around the 3x6 pen coops, paint them and put up the panels. I already have the condos for the individual cage pens ready to hang. I have the 6 foot tall x10 foot chain link panels already, but will get 4 more of the 6 x12 and I can reuse the two 6x12 panels I have.
I'm making the 5x6 gates from two of the 6x10 panels. So at least some work can be done in the barn.
Then up goes the wire top and shade covers.
I am way behind on hatching my CW this year. I usually have their eggs in the incubator by Feb 1.
Plan...that is the duck pen on the left. I have enough panels to divide it.

Working a plan around the diagonal garden pipe and cable fence is a bummer! It was already in place when we bought the farm 20 plus years ago.....the garden was put in place quickly so the boys decided not to replace the old fence.

Well, I got an email from Meyer Hatchery about a problem with my order. Looks like I am not going to be able to get my Golden Cuckoo Maran. :hit I really liked the look of her. But I understand that sometimes things don't hatch like expected and I did click the box saying that I was willing to substitute as opposed to putting the order on hold until I was able to get ONLY the breeds requested. I mean, nature is nature. So I am going to get a Black Copper Maran in her place. The reason I didn't go with that breed in the first place because I already have black colored birds. I was trying to add a little variation in bird color as well as egg color. But I understand. And they were very nice and apologetic. My order will be boxed up and go out today. I figure I will have my sweet fluffies Weds, unless they overnight them. The website says they use USPS Priority or USPS Express. I will be ready tomorrow just in case but I am assuming Weds. :ya

A B is ok Tes.
Thank God you got the extra credit points.

I wasn’t kidding when I said this dog adores me. :love I just took this picture.

He’s the best boy in the entire universe and I hate that he’s not feeling 120%. He deserves to feel 500000%. He’s starting to get frustrated that he can’t use the old water bowel since he can’t reach it for long periods and pawing it. I know the aspirins are helping though as he gets excited to play when he starts feeling good. It’s just going to take some time.
Happy belated birthday pretty girl!
And your boy is so sweet, good grief. Those flappy jowls. :love Give him extra hugs and kisses from me!
This is also coming from someone who prefers a longer snoot on her dogs. I'm not big on the short snoots.
Behold, an appropriate snoot. View attachment 1695725

Aw that stinks about the Golden Cuckoo Marans but YAYY for chickies!!!! :D When I got mine, I got them next day from OH to MA. TN is farther so it might be later. I figured it would be the day after for mine though and they were my first chickens and I am a procrastinator so I was not ready lol but this time I plan on getting ready sooner. But definitely be prepared in case they come sooner. But I think TN is further.

Full grown Serama hen who at 17 oz is actually slightly oversized for the breed!

Wow really? Huh, interesting!! Those are some tiny chickens!! LOL

Actually, upon Googling, it looks like you are closer than I am to the hatchery. 7 hours as opposed to 11. I always forget where TN is :lau  but yeah, I’d definitely prepare for next day. Even though they ship USPS, they usually arrive pretty quickly. And you’re like right below the hatchery.
