Before I attempt to cure my black thumb...I need to get a fence around the side of my yard with the coop. The chickens have free access right now and are pooping everywhere, on everything. They even lay eggs in an old bean bag we had back there for a day and now don't have the heart to move. After the fence is in place, i'm adding a few more to the mix. Any suggestions?? My requirements are that they lay a decent sized egg and likely won't be jerks to my kids. So far for my glittery flock i've got, a bantam blue cochin, white silkie, barred rock, white brahma and a creamy Easter egger.

Chanteclers! Super sweet temperaments on the boys and the females lay good sized brown eggs. They go broody about once a year and are decent mothers.

July hits and everything wilts. Then August gets hotter.

The chickens spread pumpkin seed everywhere. I need to put wire around to see if any will make this year.

they say if there are no squash plant they have nowhere to lay eggs.. so the late plantings don't get as much bored because there are no new squash bores hatching out to bore.
of course it's a ways to anyone else that has squash by me.
