One can never read enough ;) More is always better!
I'm almost done with Conan's other murder book.

The Little House on the Prairie series probably covered it. I read those in about 3rd grade :lau
I did not like reading when I was a wee one.

Quality more than quantity.

Not saying the trashy romance novels are bad, I'm just saying there are many options to choose from. I read some terrible literature in High School that scarred me for life.

My kids tell me that they are the only people they know of reading a book that wasn't assigned reading. I started them on regular library trips around age 2 when storytime was a huge effort to attend. The person running it was AMAZING so I put myself through getting them there every week. And it stuck -- they always, always have a book they're reading.

My kids grew/grow up with books too.
They know no other way.

We have Dolly's Imagination Library Books from Birth here (a free book mailed to your child every month for the first five years of their life). It's pretty fantastic, the hospital puts the first book and a sign up card in your baby gift bag.
