Yeah I only wanted 4 or 5 more birds and that isn't enough to meet Ideal's minimum order requirement. Good thing that I know lots of chicken peopleNice!! Good breeds! And good idea going in on an order together haha

The parents are always close by.Are the parents still around or are you going to substitute?
The not a chance remark was referring to the fact that there is no chance that there were any tomato hornworms on the tomato plants.Awww...come on! If the parents have abandoned it...
Long tweezers for the first couple of tidbits. Then set the worm or bug in front of it and baby should peck at it.
Now, if there were any baby hornworms on those tomato plants...

Thanks! They are hilarious. Best entertainment money can buyAwww!!!
Congrats on your new additions!
I'd probably order from Ideal knowing how quick shipping is from TX to TN. Plus, they are known to have really nice EEs. But visiting the local hatchery means no shipping woes and they've done well for me so that's what I've gone with every time. I still drool over the wide variety at Ideal. That’s awesome!! I wish I had people to order with lol
Although that said, I’ve ordered all mine from Meyer who only has a minimum of 3 haha
That round little fluff butt stage is the best! Pity it flies by so quickly. It's killing me that you got both Orloffs and Faverolles. Thanks! They are hilarious. Best entertainment money can buy![]()

At this age the baby birds will not take food other than what is dropped in their mouths which is why they open their mouths big enough to accept the parent's whole head.
Nature is cruel. There are laws that require that the birds and all wildlife be left alone because too many people interfere using the excuse that the babies are abandoned when they are very rarely abandoned.
If the feral cat that used to live here had not been eliminated by a neighbor, this baby bird would already have become food. The same thing would have happened with the baby bunny that lives under by front door.
Yes, you can. She is using her wings to elevate even with her hop to the top. Barbed wire should help. Can you clip a chickens wing, like you can for a duck, to try to discourage flying? My EE, Sunny, has been flying up onto the fence and jumping over into the dog area. I am getting flashbacks of little Luna being mauled by dog again.I don't want to go through that again. She literally just did it again while my hubby was out there with the dogs. Luckily he was able to get a hold of them before they took off after her. 3 of the fence lines have barbed wire on top of them and the one side that separates the chicken area from the dog area does NOT. We are going to run a couple strands on top of that line first but I am still asking for the future. She is the only one that does this.
