➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

:barnie

My parents STILL are not getting it through their heads about this healthy eating thing!!! It’s been like forever. Today they went to McDonalds and brought back some burger or other. Asked if I wanted it. No. So dad ate it. Then now they are at Chik Fil A and just texted me what I wanted. I replied “Nothing thanks” They had called like 20 minutes ago and said they were on their way home and asked if I’d eaten yet (I hadn’t), said they hadn’t either, but I figured they’d just come home or something. Till they sent the text about Chik Fil A.

Anyway, I tell them every single time they bring home or want to bring home fast food or want to buy Chinese or pizza or whatever that I. Do. Not. Eat. That. Crap. But they just don’t get it.

I get it, they’re just trying to be nice, and I do appreciate it, I really do. A lot of people don’t have that. But it just gets a little frustrating when I’m trying not to eat that crap and they constantly want to eat it. Or when they go off and say they’ll bring me something home and then bring back crap! Knowing full well I don’t eat it. Thus leaving me to fend for myself yet again or sometimes I go buy something instead but often everything’s closed if they come back late so I can’t. Which sucks. In that case I usually either go to the grocery store and get something there or just make eggs yet again or something shitty and fast like a pb&j cause I’m starving. That last one is very rare now but I used to do it a lot.

Just gets a little annoying.

Now, I don’t always eat the healthiest either. Like today I made French toast with my eggs. But I’ve been trying. And I made sure to eat some cucumber from my garden along with it so I’d get some veggies in. And I’ve been trying (and doing pretty well) at not eating crap like bread and sugar and stuff but I’ve been really craving French toast lately and have been good all week, cooking all my own food and eating tons of vegetables from the garden, so I splurged today. Shouldn’t have but I did and now dinner will be healthier with some squash maybe.

But the fast food part has been forever. Yeah I still screw up and eat French toast and/or ice cream and stuff like that occasionally but I haven’t eaten fast food in a long time, like months, and I’ve been trying not to for years. Slip up some occasionally obviously hence why it’s only been months not years and there was a point where I ate it like daily for a long time. But I don’t now. And I mean true fast food not like Subway and Panera and stuff.

Yet another reason to get your own place. When you are the only person living there or among like-minded or independent roomies, you are forced to plan your meals a bit, load your part of the fridge/cabinets with only what you eat, and nobody is constantly undermining your efforts. You have no idea what you're missing or you would have been out of there ages ago. But, I promise, it's super liberating! And you'll enjoy the time you do spend with them more.

Date the egg carton
Put a piece of painters tape on the carton, mark the date of first and last egg. Remove tape to sell or reuse carton
TN regulates the crap out of egg sales.

We aren't permitted to reuse cartons. Ever. Not for storage of eggs for sale nor selling. If we go to the farmer's market, we need a portable temperature-controlled chiller to maintain a constant refrigerator temp. Eggs we store at home for sale also need to be temperature controlled. AND, all eggs have to be washed with an approved sterilization method.

Does everyone follow this? Probably not. But if someone gets sick, you can be held responsible for not meeting these regulations.

I don't sell eggs for this reason. It's either jump in with both feet or keep a personal use flock.

Those regulations are not specific to TN. They are just requiring you to follow the FDA regulations.

Oh trust me, I am fully aware of what I’m missing haha

I went to a real college right out of high school. Not that the one I graduated from wasn’t real, it’s a good school, but I just mean like a 4 year one with dorms and stuff. So I went there for the first year, in the freshman dorms, and met some awesome people, and then after that you can move to on campus apartments so we did with some friends I had met the first year. Well, actually, my best friend who was supposed to live with us dropped out and went to a different school, so it ended up just being one friend and I at first but then they had this other newer girl move in and she ended up being amazing and we all became really good friends so that was nice. Anyway, the second year, I dropped out two weeks before the first semester was over. But I did get to live in that apartment for a few months and it was awesome cause we would like go to the movies or mall or whatever, always hanging out and having fun haha so I did get a glimpse of it and miss it.

And also whenever they go out of town leave me home or when I dog sit and stay at DB’s, I love it so much. It’s quiet for once and I can do whatever I want and I am usually way more relaxed. Also it’s stupid but I’m like pretty shy or embarrassed or something so I don’t play my music or dance or do anything fun when they’re around unless I’m in the car. But when they’re not, I blast it and also cook or clean or something to it even.

Speaking of which, when they’re gone, I’m also waaaaaaaayyyyyy more independent and I usually actually cook for myself and clean up after myself and everything and I actually usually wear myself out because I will be running around for hours or at least standing up all that time and I am not used to doing or standing that much :lau

I know it sounds stupid but they like enable me a lot too and I also think I kinda shut down around them a bit or something cause when I’m away from it I’m way more productive. And the enabling thing, they’re also always doing everything for me or offering so I never have to or at least my mother is. But then again she does that to everyone. Always picking up after everyone and I always say leave it and let them do it ha cause I do always put my dishes away but some others don’t. But anyway, I realize that I should take responsibility myself and do my own stuff, but I don’t and they allow it or actually even seem to prefer doing it for me still! And I probably take advantage of that. but it’s not like they discourage the laziness.

That said, I’ve been trying to be better. I’m about to go do my own laundry before anyone else does and yesterday I put all the dishes away and today I’m filling it.

So I’m getting better slowly ha

Anyway, I have tried and had glimpses of living alone and it is WAY better and far less stressful and I am able to get way more done as well as be happier because I’m not constantly stressed out and shut down so it’s not that I don’t want to move out, I 100000000% do. I’m just trying to save first.

Although I currently have way more than most people my age and more than my brother who already moved out a while ago so I probably could but I want to be 110% sure I have enough.

My brother seems to think I should just do it but dad and other DB think I’m right to save more and make sure.

Trying to save 6-12 months rent first.

I’m probably pretty close but I’m also now trying to save way more for living money haha

And also I don’t think most apartments would accept dog walking and pet sitting as income even if I was making tons and tons of money so I’m also now still trying to find a real job so I can get one as well as saving way faster.

Plus the minimum wage here is way higher than some of the areas I want to move to so I am trying to save as much as I can here first before moving somewhere with a lower minimum wage or whatever.

But I do eventually want to move because everything is so expensive here.

But those extra dollars makes a big difference in saving faster and everything.

It went up to $12 an hour here in January and is supposed to be going up to $15. Has been going up every year for a couple years but I think last year they just signed a bill to start increasing it to $15. Meanwhile, PA, one of the areas I was considering moving to, still only has a $7.25/hour minimum wage. Obviously MUCH lower. Of course, the cost of living there is also way way lower but still.

ETA: sorry for the novel :lau  clearly I’ve thought about this a lot :lau

OK. I found the information on a TN government website when I first looked into it and it kept referencing TN so I assumed the regulations varied by state.
The regulations can vary by state but those just happen to be the FDA regulations for commercial egg production.

http://nerous.org/state-laws-regulations/egg-laws-by-state/ but some are old links.
IL is
  • Producers:
    • If you are an egg producer, you may sell nest-run eggs from your own flock to household consumers. However, these sales are limited to direct sales to household consumers for their own personal use, and must be sold on the premises where the flock is located. This type of shell egg sale does not require an Illinois Egg License. Producer egg sales to licensed grading stations also do not require an egg license.
  • Producers (Limited License):
    • If you are an egg producer, and you wish to sell eggs from your own flock off the premises where the flock is located, you are required to obtain an Illinois Egg License. A Limited Producer-Dealer egg license is required for producers selling graded eggs produced by their own flock of fewer than 3000 birds. Wholesale and retail sales of eggs must meet all requirements found in the Illinois Egg & Egg Products Act.
