➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

:lau as much as I love animals, I hate smelly animals. :lau

Never really smelled a sweaty horse and probably wouldn’t mind that but can’t stand wet dog and our house smells like a barn right now and I hate it. :lau doing a deep clean tomorrow lol

And aww I would probably love IV! She seems cool. Beardies seem awesome. But yeah, I don’t know why people hate rats so much or why they feel the need to tell you all about how much they hate them directly to your face. :(

I personally don’t really like insects, I’m terrified of most of them, and honestly I don’t really understand why people keep them as pets, I genuinely don’t get it and I won’t deny that, but I would never ever, tell that to someone that has one or say that their pet is ugly or creepy or anything like that. I actually don’t even think that, I think some of them are really cool looking and can be really pretty; they just scare me. :lau

I am terrified of spiders, scorpions, roaches, etc. and praying mantises especially are terrifying, but I know that these are pets to some people and they mean just as much to them as my dog, cat, chicken, whatever and I think that’s really cool. Some people don’t get how chickens can be pets either and that’s fine with me as long as they aren’t rude about it.

But most people are just so rude about unusual pets! I’ve heard horror stories of people threatening to squish/kill the pet, etc. and even one that they actually did it. :(

That’s just such disgusting behavior to me.

It might be ugly or weird or creepy to you but it’s someone’s beloved pet and I don’t get why being rude is acceptable. You would never go up to someone and say your dog is really ugly and creepy and I hate dogs and wish I could shoot him or “hey, your kid is super ugly” (at least I hope not :lau  ) so why is it acceptable for unique/exotic/different pets!?

And hopefully it’s obvious but the you in my post is a generic “you”, know we probably feel the same way on this haha

And sorry for the rant/tangent haha just makes me mad.
In my experience, for most people any smell = bad smell. I don't think ferrets smell bad, it's just unique and can be intense.

I have no idea why people think it's acceptable. I can handle some teasing, and I have a lot of respect for people who politely ask not to see/touch them. But the majority of people will just straight up tell you all of their nasty thoughts whether you ask for them or not lol. (I've definitely never asked, FYI)
I can't imagine telling someone how repulsive I thought their couch or something was, let alone a living pet!

It's particularly hard when you lose one of them and you're mourning an animal that everyone else finds disgusting. It's honestly so discouraging and isolating.

And now I'm ranting too lol. I'm just glad I married someone who "gets" it. I don't think I could handle a non-animal person for the rest of my life.

Yeah, I think I’m somewhat in that camp which is weird for being such an animal person. :lau

I try to make stuff not smell haha

But it’s not even just animal smells. I’m very sensitive to like musty anything and just smells in general haha

And yeah, I don’t get the logic behind it at all!! Just because you think something doesn’t mean you have to say it!! Lol but some people just seem to have no filter which is so sad when they’re talking about someone’s pet like that. :(

Teasing is one thing but being straight up cruel is another. :(

And awww I’m sorry!! I imagine that must be awful! :( :hugs I never thought of that. if you ever get more, I’m sure everyone here would be supportive :hugs

But yeah, like you said, if someone asks politely, I would be fine and would hide them (if I had those animals) and we’ve put the dog away for people who are scared of him and the cat away for people who are allergic (not that it helps much, her fur is everywhere lol), and I don’t mind doing it but if someone were to go “EWWWWW you have a DOG!?!? I HATE dogs!!!! :sick:sick So gross! How could you own that thing!! :sick:sick“ I would probably throw them out of my house. :lau

I don’t even mind that they just don’t like them if they’d just ask nicely lol

That concept seems to be lacking for a lot of people.

And nahh I don’t think you are! You have very good points.

Although if it takes a while to sell them on the more unusual ones, that’s fine. :lau

Soooo cute :love

They can go quite awhile without eating if they want and be just fine. Tad was uninterested food for a few days after we first got her. I think it is a normal response to the stress of relocation. Or he is just being picky lol. Either way, he will settle in and start eating soon, I am sure.

The local mom and pop store we bought Tad from sells roaches, but they are really expensive and they only have small ones. A tech at the exotic animal vet we go to told us about Dubi deli and we haven’t looked back since.

No smell, no noise, and they are easier to keep alive too. We hardly have any die off from our roaches, even after a couple months.

Ya know, I always wanted one of those!
I got 10 females and 2 males. Just to start off to get used to them. Then I got 3 sample sizes for Groot. Whatever he likes best, I'll order more.

We don't have an exotic vet. I get all my info from people like the Petco manager who has had them all his life. I guess technically I have had them half my life. I think he actually went to college for something science related and was working at Petco to pay for it. He fell in love with that Petco store and graduated but stayed with Petco.

I can't believe he's the store manager. That's pretty huge especially since he started out as just a floor sweeper and tank cleaner.

When I first started dating my husband, my bearded dragon I had for a long time passed away. I cried so hard... He didn't get it

When we started getting closer and got married, we got Gamora (Bob). He's so obsessed with it and NOW he gets it.

They're like a dog. Some people hate my lizards and will say that to me, but my friends truly want to know more about them whether it's behind the glass or out of the tank.

My mom said to me "Why would you buy a diseased animal?" And I told her "I'm diseased too, does that mean I'm not worthy of love?" She had a change of heart when I said it.

Groot has had a rough life with yellow fungus and this caring person saved him. I want him to grow big and strong so that one day I can show the Petco employees how gorgeous he is.

Honestly, most pet stores euthanize lizards that are in that circumstance.

Yesterday was the first time in 2 years that I shopped at that Petco besides when I got Groot. It's all because of that store manager.

I'd never hide my animals. I do have to put my pit mix away sometimes because she's overly protective of me. She will get between me and the person she doesn't know and try to put fear into them. She's a sweet dog though if you know her.

My puggle is all mouth and loves to talk. She barks at CVS pharmacy and the bank for cookies  they know her well at both places.

Jolene just licks and loves everyone.

Lucy she's a beagle and all beagles know is love.

Jack hides and only comes out of it's just people who live here that are here.

Gamora is right in the livingroom and Groot is in our bedroom.

Just hanging with Groot this morning
