➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Update:
My dad's blood panels came back good and his EKG's are abnormal but okay. He did not have a heart attack but they have not ruled out a blockage.
He has been admitted and they're waiting for the results of the cardiologist stress test. He is tired but in good spirits.

We just got home with Triumph. He is very tired and still nauseous, but he was able to sit up when he saw me and was whining to go home. Improvement from yesterday when he was limp and could barely open his eyes.
He will have to be on a new [expensive] food for his kidneys from now on. The vet said there is a good chance this will eventually happen again and he will need more fluids to get back on his feet.

And not that I really care at all right now-- but my advisor has been disappointingly useless and unhelpful.
He finally replied to my emails yesterday and told me I might be put in classes tomorrow. Ridiculous.

Day old birds don’t have diseases though and hatcheries are all extensively tested
I've bought some from breeders I know every year. Most are NPIP. Some are close friends. All from the swaps.

Swaps are my place to exchange numbers or emails so we can meet up at a later date to get birds.

Most birds I buy are day olds and day old birds can have diseases, it all depends on the environment. If theirs diseased birds around, they'll catch whatever they have and are more susceptible to get it because their immunity isn't built up yet.

HeiHei came from a swap and so didn't Blue footed booby, everyone else is from a local farm. Oh and the orpington mix and the Easter Egger mix... The guys birds all were healthy, I know who to stay away from.

I know 99.9% of the people at these swaps

Is NCIS as good as Criminal Minds?

It’s amazing. You need to watch it lol

No but it's ok.

I think it’s great haha

Although lately the last few seasons they’ve gotten rid of all the good characters. :(

But I really like it.

It’s got really good actors/characters though I think.

Although the writing may be slightly better on Criminal Minds but that one is so well done that anything would be hard to top it haha

I’ve seen every single episode of NCIS though. Been watching it from the beginning. :lau

I also love the New Orleans one although they recently killed off my favorite character. :(

I don’t like the Los Angles one that much but like a couple characters lol

But I always watch NCIS. :lau

But I’m really into those types of shows haha I watch all of them every week. :lau

I will say Hawaii Five-0 and Magnum P.I. are kinda corny/campy/not great writing but NCIS is good lol

People get eggs from others without them being NPIP and that's just as dangerous.

To each their own... I'm I'meast careful who I buy from and I inspect the birds thoroughly before I buy.

I've walked away from many birds because of the sketchiness of their breeders or the looks of them.

Our swaps usually check all the birds or animals before they go into the selling lot.

NPIP doesn't mean disease free in most states.
Most states only test for pullorum typhoid....which doesn't really exist anymore.

It sounds like it’s perfectly fine then! And doesn’t sound like too big of a swap then? I guess I was thinking of like a huge one or like bird shows or something where there could be sick birds or something that they could catch but if you know them then that’s great!

That’s awesome! And I didn’t mean to offend or anything. Your swap sounds like a really good one and that’s great. I was meaning like in general, often time swaps and bird shows can have diseases you could accidentally bring home. Or even if you don’t buy anything, could bring something home on your shoes if someone else has something on their property. Also, birds don’t have to look sick to bring something back. They could simply be immune to a different strain of something they have on your property that you don’t and yours might get sick cause they haven’t been exposed to that strain before. I’m sure it’s probably rare but does happen. But yours seems like a good one.

There's usually 20-30 different sellers. We all know each other
