About the same time as the gosling theft, I had an Airedale. I kept noticing eggs disappearing from the goose nest but never figured out what was taking them. It was happening during the day when I was out and about and so was the Airedale.
One day the goose was sitting on the nest when the Airedale went to get her egg. She got too impatient waiting for the goose to leave. She stuck her nose under the goose to grab an egg and all hell broke lose. The goose managed to grab her on the side of her upper lip. She got an excellent hold and started twisting.
The Airedale came boiling out of there backwards dragging the goose while the goose held on as long as possible twisting the lip the whole time. The dog must have dragged her a good 90' before the goose let go and ran back to her nest.
The Airedale was not a dummy. She learned her lesson and never messed with the geese again. I never noticed any more eggs missing either.
