I think 7 have hatched from the second lot so far. Its hard to see and count since all are yellow bar a black one and i have maybe a 5cm line of sight lol. Looks like ill have to keep all the yellow ones for a while unless I can tell which are wheaten Marans from the others when I pull them out.. did I already say im kicking myself for not deviding the eggs :barnie

I'm getting nervus tomorrow is hatch day for 3 of the 7 and no moving or rocking or pips

Sometimes you'll see them move; other times not. Also, unless you're candling them, it can be easy to miss the pips. You can candle them (I would) and see what's going on in there if you're worried.

I just had 2 Amerucanas hatch 3 more piped and nothing on 2 others hatch day is tomorrow, also have 3 piped out of 7 BCMs due to hatch tomorrow. I 😁

BCM on my list to hatch next year! I haven’t seen anywhere local that does them, and I had 0% hatch on any shipped eggs this time. So really want to be able to get them from a breeder! They lay such beautiful eggs!! Happy hatching! 💕

Button Quail 1 day old and woke up active, happy, hungry and thirsty.
I’m new at this and it was a good experience for me. I had done this 3 times prior with a styrofoam non-auto incubator with little success and much frustration. Although there are top of the lines bators that literally do everything, they’re too expensive. So I did some research and got a fairly inexpensive auto and this is a huge difference in chick hatch success at 70% (9:13) for my shipped eggs. Also, the breeder is highly experienced known for quality birds. So I finally hit it right.

After a very stressful day yesterday of hatching with 3 very touch and go late hatch eggs, all are looking really fabulous this morning!

After 2 weeks, they will go into an indoor aviary I’m making for them out on my enclosed, insulated patio. It’s a big production. I wanted something both a natural, fun habitat for them & aesthetically pleasing for me incorporating it into my to my coastal decor.

Quail want to eat and drink instantly they are so different than chicken chicks. They are do active too when they first hatch. I haven’t done buttons yet but maybe someday I’ll try them

Post pics of the aviary please... I’d love to see what you’ve done. I have a aviary too. I put a rose bush and fake plants plus lots of hideouts. I’ll be changing it around soon, but for now my quail love it.

Well, I took on a big project and it will be part of my new home construction just finished as a cross between a livable home addition & an enclosed patio. I seem to be the type to go above & beyond, but have always done this sort of thing throughout my life.
I first did some research on how others have done it. I took notes on details, pros/cons, etc. I looked at things like reptile vivariums and bioactives (Mine is not a true living bioactive as I noted some cons for that since the aviary isn’t a full room).

I liked the looks/ideas and the “how-to’s. Then tried matching up what the reptile people were doing to birds. Again, researched pros/cons and “how-to’s. On youtube I came across one huge finch aviary in Seattle with videos that had great details and went with many of her ideas. That aviary channel is called “Echo Aviary.”
I have RA and medical problems that at times really can tire me out to near incapacity requiring rest. I must modify my home around this issue so life is easier for me. With birds that comes down to cleanliness. Much I do is form & function so I can have the best of both worlds. So, being able to flush out the large cage fairly easily is a key point for me. My little rural home is my vacation and all I have. Since the death of my husband, I need a little company. The sweet sounds of birds like these buttons helps with that. My 11 year old dog, a miniature pinscher, is basically the second person in my house now.
I can provide more details on what I did with the creation of this project as well as safety, non-toxic, needs & preferences for my species, needs & preferences for myself, etc. I’ve been working on it for the past few weeks. I wanted to Include everything everybody wanted. It’s not at all finished yet and much more will go into the final details of it, but here’s a few pics of the work in process.
