🐕 Golden Retriever Chat 🐕

Do these dogs shed very bad?

What’s their temperament as a puppy?
Yes the do shed a lot. Especially show/pet goldens. Tucker my field golden doesnt shed as much but he has a ton more energy. He needs enrichment, he needs training and work.
Temperments change a happy healthy, super friendly puppy can turn into a not so friendly shy puppy without proper training and socializing.

My families female Denver is very outgoing she loves almost everyone but can be stubborn and sheds a ton. We new her Dam personally.

But Tucker was a happy puppy, he had a bit of issues with men but it he was pretty confident. In puppy class he learned quick. Went through the socialization (over tarps, pools, sand, rocks, and many other materials, through tunels.) He was brave. And that was until he was charged at by dogs at around 9/10 months. Now he is reactive scared and not confident. Its took months of training to get him comfortable with regular walks without reacting. And he loves agility, but wont do teeter contacts.

It really depends on the dog. And the sire/ dam. Ethical breeders, breed for temperment. Not for money and not for coat color. I have a good list of ethical breeders if you are intrested

My golden is named Cisco!

What does you Goldie look like?

How old is your Goldie?
About 3 and a half, which is crazy because It feels so recent that his breeder sent a picture of his mom's ultrasound.

What is your Goldies favourite thing to do?
Cause trouble, go on runs, and Ball.

How many Goldies (or other dogs if you have another breed) do you have?
Just 1, but I also have 2 dachshunds, and we're looking into getting a rescue!
Oh my goodness crisco is such a cute name!! I love it

We have been training a lot on Tuckers reactivity. And he is doing so well. Better than i ever could have expected. We are doing agility right now with other dogs around. Walks with other dogs in a shorter distance, and people as well. Last night instead of reacting he looked at me before making his decision. Thats the first time i havent said leave it or no before he decided. Hopefully within the next 2 years we will be doing some sports🤞probably not comp level but just for fun.

That’s great!!! I REALLY hope you could get to the point where he could be your service dog! That seems to be the ultimate goal, right? Chase had drastic improvements by 3 so I really hope it’s the same for Tucker. I know they are different dogs and Tucker has had more environmental things to cause his reactivity, but I think there is a chance. I think where Chase is now he maybe is good enough he be a service dog (just as far as being around people) but I don’t know about a ton of people. I haven’t been around a ton of people in a long time and the last time didn’t really go well. He always calms down, but it’s his initial reaction that is bad.

I wont be making him my sd. He will be a at home service dog and i will be training him to push a button to send alerts to my family(if there is a such thing) in case of a episode. But i dont ever want to risk it i hope to take him places. But not non pet friendly places. Tucker hasnt had a severe reaction in a while which im so happy about.

Yeah I guess it’s better to be safe than sorry😊

Eventually i do plan to get another dog either a aussie, another golden or any breed that will suite what i want and need it to do then train it to be my sd. But Tucker is happy right now. He just got done running happy zoomies after i got home. 😂

Totally butting in in the conversation here🤣But:
Ahhh!!!!! I am getting one end of next year!! 🤩🤩 I've met my breeders dogs and they are beautiful!!!

Quick update as well:

the reason I am getting one is because I would always do agility with Lily, but becasue she did break her leg at like 4 months of age (it only got diagnosed at like 7 months tho 😭 after 4 vets and x-rays etc.) it started flaring up again, so, now she is retired from agility 😪Buttttt the people I do agility through dtill let me one of there dogs, Jammie a little Papillion, and they have also convinced me (well my mum) to get an Aussie!!! So yesss
