10 Baby Wood Ducks (1st thought they were Mallards)

It's terrifying especially since I'm in the yard.

True, Hawks are very bold.

I love having my babies wander in the yard, and we did it for a couple years without incident. Now we're on their hit list.

Same here lost my OEGB roo then my OEGB hen then another OEGB hen seems once they know there’s no end to it.

Coop chores this morning. Emptied ducks' swimming pool and refilled it with fresh water. Fetched the bucket of duckweed that I brought back from our nearby pond, and started hand-scooping duckweed into the pool. I like getting chucks of stuff from the pond, like wood or leaves, and the ducks like it too. I was sort of surprised to find a huge chunk of stuff in my hand covered in duckweed, until I got a good look. It was a BIG OL' RAT! Must have climbed into the bucket looking for goodies and ... OOPS! "What's wrong rat? Can't swim?"

I haven't dumped it yet. Gotta show DH.

Boy I bet that was a shock! I had a mouse once who thought he could swim the pool but he got froze half way across.

Oh wow you have lots of excitement going on at your place these days. Your little wood ducks are so cute and I love their little attitude with the pullets. How cute!

It was massive. Even DH said it was eff'in big when he went to dump it in the field across the street. That duckweed is pretty thick stuff. It was probably like quicksand and sucked that fat rat down.

Think I'll put a stick out there so I can stir my duckweed bucket before I go reaching into it with my hand.
