10 Cornish X eggs in the incubator!

I might try raising one Cornish rock to be another chicken pet for me! I'm hoping that I can actually get the chick to live longer then 8 weeks.

What would be the "perfect" or "ideal" rooster to take to a Cornish X I wonder?

A really good White Plymouth Rock. That's what I plan to do. I bought some this week and have one 5 mo old cockerel. Heritage grows so much bigger. He's going to be massive at one year old. Able to breed big CX pullets with ease. Sustainability

I plan to keep a CX rooster and 2 hens for next year. If the Rooster dies I will use a Dixie rainbow.

Did I say this before, or am I having de javu
No I don't think you have said that we are keeping one cornish X hen!!!! And we had to get rid of four of our roosters we put them in the middle of a pasture and there still living!!!!! They were barred rock, welsummer and buff brahma roos.

How would I keep a Cornish Rock from getting over weight in the winter? It gets pretty cold here.
I'm starting to train my other chickens (not Cornish x) to wear a harness. Do you think I could take a cornish rock for a walk?
(I just thinking of trying to give a Cornish Rock a long happy life. Don't actually have any permanent plans at the moment)

I am also in Minnesota. I am not sure how I will keep the weight off the CX's in the winter. However, I was just out with mine and gave them TREATS, and not a one came to check it out. It seems when they are raised without being allowed to make a pig of themselves, they don't eat as much as they get older.

I had two birds come over and look at the treats, (Mixture of cracked corn, sunflower seeds, oats and their 18% feed) they both pecked at it for about 5 seconds and walked away.

The birds were too busy to eat, they were scratching and running around. One found he had wings and could fly to the top of the brooder, and look down on his mates. I have many things for them to play with, over and under, I have an old deck railing laid down as a ladder for them to climb on, I have a couple pallets with junk on to climb on and under. They seem to find toads and frogs to chase all the time....BUT come winter I am not sure what I will do.

I plan to let them out as much as possible. I have a south facing door on the coop that goes into the large pen they live in now. I am hoping that will keep them from reverting to CX;s.

If it is like last winter, the cold should keep them skinny burning fat to stay warm.

Hello everyone! I'm surprised and really happy at the response I received, thank y'all. A couple of answers, yes I did know that they are not a "true" Cornish X, that's why I was kind of expecting them to be a different color. I guess I was thinking of the Black sexlink... RIR X Barred Rock. do it the other way and you get the Barred Rock, something like that. anyways, I decided to take some pictures tonight of the parents, it's hard to see how big they are but the roo is about 13 + pounds. My Cornish never got too fat because I forced them to free range and get exercise. This pen is only for breeding purposes only. I feed them high protein feed but only once a day. I feed them crack corn as a treat now and again but not a lot. I will post the pictures under this post (they are on my phone). The three babies are Cornish X babies...and one is my RIR baby for a comparison. Also, I just put 10 Cornish X eggs in the incubator tonight! Wish everyone success! God Bless.

The babies are 9 days old today, I also think my RIR rooster would make a good choice and he very we'll be the daddy to one or more of the eggs I put in the incubator.
