100% hatch rate on shipped eggs!

Yes that is what I'm afraid of and culling, especially peas is very hard for me. I will try to get it to go back into place and I will give him a day or two. This is the only part I hate about raising chicks.

Me too.

I only got one this year with big hock, i have almost tried everything but it didn't get any better.

FBC does a wrap like a burrito for splayed legs, would that work for this?

The problem is the swelling and the damage it does to the joint, so unless swelling is reduced the joint will end up deformed and will not be able to keep the tendon in place. Then as the chick grows the leg will start to rotate. The burrito thing might work, but it would probably have to stay on for several days and during that time the chick can't eat or drink.

I have tried FBC way, the chick get a little better at first, but as Kathy said when he grow up his leg start to rotate again. Anyway FBC method worked well with another chick with normal spraddle legs.

Some good news...one of the Javas has hatched! The other has pipped and is chirping, so I think it has a good chance of hatching. I hope they don't have leg problems! The one that is hatched is so dark, almost black and he is a big chick. The eggs were quite a bit larger than the ibs and bs. Will post pics when the other hatches. Thanks for the moral support. I had to put in an emergency call to Dr. L (Lacrystol). I think I panicked a little too early, but as usual she calmed me down and set me on the right path. Now if I can keep from chewing off all my nails waiting for the little slow poke!

The second chick didn't make it. I had made an air hole in the egg, but apparently it still suffocated. Such a shame. I will have to be happy with the one. Maybe next year I'll do better. I didn't have to assist any of the others. You can't win 'em all.

Will get pics of the little Java tomorrow. He seems to be ok. Out of 18 eggs total, I managed to hatch 15. I'm still happy about that.

Sorry you lost it... There are two trains of thought on air hole placement, one is two make it where they normally pip, the other is to make it at the top of the shell. With either location it's possible for them to rotate in the shell and block the air hole.

The egg being larger and the chick being dark and big are very good signs. Green peafowl do have larger eggs and also the peachicks are larger and darker then other peafowl. It should be like a dark chocolate color with maybe a greyish brown look even. I am not sure about the leg color when they have just hatched, but eventually it will have dark grey legs. If it is a true Java it will develop very vibrant blue on its wings even if it is a female. It will be very fun watching it grow up and get colorful. I hope you post photos of it growing up frequently. We don't get many green peafowl photos and we especially don't get many green peachick photos so it will be a real treat! I hope all of the peachicks are doing good!

Also again congrats you are having such amazing success!
