11-week-old Buff Orp, hackle feathers - pointed or round?

Hello,

I’ve noticed the feathers on one of my 11-week-old-ish Buff Orpingtons are a bit silkier and more elongated than my other bird (same breed, same age).

Do the hackle feathers look pointed to you? Or is it too soon to tell?

I don’t see much of a pronounced comb or wattle, but the tail seems a bit flounceier than the other’s too… and it had me wondering if I’ve got another rooster in my hands.

The bird in question, I’ve marked with a male symbol. Its friend I’ve marked with a female symbol. Her feathers seem definitely rounded to me.

Hmmm, it’s a bit hard to see the feather shape clearly, but compared to the pullets comb, the one in question is notably more red. My guess is cockerel.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I noticed today the wattles and comb are much redder. Seemed like the colour appeared almost overnight!
