11th Annual Easter Hatch a Long 2020

I have shelf liner in the incubator and a cardboard box with wood shavings in it to transport them to the sheep tank in the shop bathroom that I use for a brooder that also has wood shavings in it. This was just a "quick, what can I find to put the chicks in to take them outside to better lighting to snap a quick picture and then take them right back" plastic container. They were not in there for more than 5 minutes. I wouldn't dream of leaving them in such a slick container for a long period of time.

Shelf liner works great if you use a plastic tub for a brooder. When it it time to change the liner, pop in a new one and run the old one through the laundry..after rinsing out the poo though! The shower is good for that or a hose outside

I have one porcelain D'uccle chick!!! (so far). So tiny and cute.

Update: I ended up with 3 healthy chicks. Sadly one died during the night yesterday, partially hatched, and 3 eggs were duds. Love these little fuzz balls though!

54 eggs set for hatch on day 19. 2 were iffy and I should have tossed them. 46 chicks hatched but 1 died the next day. So my brooders are full with 45 chicks!

I just moved my final baby under the heat lamp! 4 out of 12 for me. 6 made it to hatch, but 2 died while hatching. I am in love with all of these ducklings

Only 4 eggs out of 18 didn’t hatch, 1 died half out and one passed a few days ago it flipped and I didn’t notice it and the older chicks in there buried it I think it was a little weak

I just went through this with my friend's rooster. She still isn't getting fertilized eggs. We incubated multiple times and opened so many eggs. Some eggs really do look like there is a clear bullseye even when they aren't ferilized. I don't have a rooster in my flock so I started cracking mine open too and sure enough some of the blastodiscs were large enough that they gave the impression of a fertilized egg. No harm in trying again though! I say keep trying until you're successful. My friend and I started to think that maybe her rooster is sterile but I may try again since it's been a month or so.

Maybe trim feathers down there.
