Trying to figure out the sex of my 12 week old chooks. I've been looking at the saddle feathers, but I'm still not entirely sure. I think the black one is a girl, but the other ??

Thanks for your thoughts

most males start getting the male sex feathers (hackle and saddle feathers) at 3 months old so you might have to move the top layer of feathers to see them as they come in.

I don't know if that's one bird or two, but it/they look like pullets.

Your birds are at the very, very earliest age for saddle feathers or hackle feathers to come in. At this age, you'd be looking for larger, redder combs, thicker legs and depending on breed, the overall color.

Thanks- glad the black one is a pullet. My photo with the other one seems to have vanished! Here it is again-

Thoughts on the buff one (I think it's a buff Orpington- is this correct)?

Thankyou everyone. I'm a bit of a newbie, and now I'll have to contain myself waiting for eggs to appear.
