I’m going to set a couple eggs from my hedemora; I was holding out for duck eggs but they started laying too late. I can just get in under the wire with 3 or 4 chicken eggs today though, lol, so count me in! I wasn’t going to set more just yet to ensure I was setting pure eggs, and not crossbred ones, but oh well! They’re adorable either way so... haha. It’s 2 weeks today since I pulled the other cockerel, and the hedemora cockerel has been busy, so there’s a chance I think. if I do get pure eggs, they’ll be from these 2:

Just got my shipped eggs! Anyone know by chance what breed BBAB would be? It’s a blue egg.

I'll be setting late. My Marans eggs were not fertilized by the Silkie boys, so I have those girls with my Marans rooster and should be able to start collecting eggs tomorrow or the day after. Three hens means it should only take a couple days collecting to get a good enough brood for my liking, so I should have them set by the middle of the week. Here's hoping Murphy is able to hit the mark on those picky girls.

Thanks! She’s my favorite, but don’t tell the others. Haha. I have a wooly cockerel too, but he’s in the house recovering from frostbite so not useable at the moment.

Next year though.
Next year with a broody and an incubator and a rooster whose offspring I Want to hatch, and more coop space, and a bigger run, and TWO pens!

Just do your best to make your breeding pens rat proof (1/2 inch steel mesh). I’ve 10 pens but less than 2 dozen clean fertile eggs because the rats haven’t been completely excluded yet


Edited to add, I’ve rescued enough clean eggs for the incubator, just not enough to share extras with a friend this time. Don’t be sad!!

I know ill have 2 polish eggs set by noon but waiting on a third today probably. That will be a little after noon most likely because I like to set at least 2 hours before placing. So 2 eggs by the noon deadline, but 3 total today most likely.

Hi! Not for this hatch, but hopefully later this month / next month I will be. My guy Gus hasn't been able to fertilize his girls for some reason, so I'm waiting for some consistently warmer weather to do some butt-trimming and see if that helps.
