And a year and a half ago we were living in CA ourselves!

No we haven't lost power - thank goodness, the only heat we have in the house is electric.
My poor hubby has been outside for 20 minutes, he went to take hay to the horse and goat, and the horse was walking funny - he is cleaning out her hooves, I went out to make sure he was OK - and he has a HAMMER trying to get the ICE off her hooves.

he said her feet/legs were buckling under her when she was walking.

In central Minnesota, 4" so far today with a total of 12" possible by morning. 30 degrees right now but down to -3 tonight and -17 monday night. Will have a fire in the wood stove for the chickens for at least two days. They like it but still quit laying thank you!

Sounds like our summer highs!
lol

It's about 33 and snowing here in oregon, chickens are freezing their little bums off at 28 and snow up in washington.

It's what they call a winter storm in the PNW!

Kind of how there are heat wave warning when it gets over 85. haha

It is just nasty out. I checked on the chickens & guineas. Gave them more food and more straw, it was 0F in the coop. Checked on the cats in the barn and filled their food plates. Checked on the ones in the garage and found a 'new' (strange) tom cat in one of the beds. He has an URI, gave him some penicillian, he was so skinny. Poor thing, at least I could handle him. Packed his box with more straw.

It was so cold the snot in my nose froze

I can hear DH when he gets back from feeding cows, when he hears we have a visitor.

Good ol blizzard here. Cant even see the barn! 47mph wind, about 10below now with falling temps all day down to 20+ below tonite(without windchill) and about 8" of snow up in the air. and more comin. Not sposed to let up til tomorrow. All the roads are closed. Got a good fire in the woodstove. All the animals are warm in the barn and I got my generator on standby with chicks in the bator due on Fri. It's my DD's Birthday so guess we'll celebrate another time.

Put lights in your coop area and they might start laying again .

Mine had dropped to like 3 - 5 eggs a day and after DH put lights in coops , they are now laying 18 eggs to 2 dozen a day .

We put lights on around 5:00 PM and leave them on until around 8:00 AM in the mornings ..

Good luck
