Lots of things cause this. Many will say humidity but it is anything that messes up with development.

What happens is that the chick does not develop enough to absorb the yolk and then the yolk remnants act like glue. Shipping, flock health, temps off in the incubator and etc.

This egg was set the day it hatched, the temp in the incubator has been pretty steady and stuff is hatching on time or maybe a day early. There are two more that I put into the hatcher with this one, so hopefully, this is just a fluke.

Sticky chicks do happen sometimes and sometimes you do not know why.

30% Humidity is getting close to the bad outcome level though. 25% and lower is associated with lower hatch rates. It is safer to go with 35 to 40% for the first 18 days.

One thing that helps with development is periodic cooling. Cooling for an hour or two a day up to day 18 helps with development. Ducks and geese also like misting.

The new incubator does have a cooling feature, maybe we will try that.

Still nothing here to set. Frozen ducks don't lay eggs. Good luck to you for a great hatch. I hope to hen hatch a few later in the year. I'd like to try to get a few more chocolates.

Also, I'm going to participate in the hatch along! I need to order my incubator, but I'm so excited! How many eggs do you guys think I should set? (My hens eggs are fertile, so I can do as many as the incubator holds, 22 eggs)
